MAKING YOUR CHOICES COUNT FOR GOD

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Dan.6:1-10, Matt.6:22, Lk.18:1, 2Tim.2:15, Deut.30:19, Job 31:1, Gen.14:23-24, Jos.24:15

One very important lesson every husbandman must learn as he leads his life and the lives of his wife and children is the power of choice. The husbandman must understand that the choices he makes determines the outcomes he gets. And this is why we shall be considering God’s words in Daniel chapter 6 and verses 1 through to 10.

Now Daniel when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down in his knees three times that day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days (Dan.6:10).

There was a plot by some persons during the reign of king Darius to entrap Daniel to be punished for praying to his God. These men asked the king to make a law that will forbid people from praying. The plot was targeted at Daniel, who prayed as a lifestyle. Daniel, having seen the law passed by the king, had a choice to make-either to pray to his God or not to pray. But he chose the former-he prayed to his God. The rest of the story was that God was honoured in the land and the people feared God.

As the husbandman, you must continue to make choices that will move you closer to becoming the good and godly shepherd. Your choices must be in line with the commandments and instructions from the word of God for you as the man, husband and father. This is because the choices you make either confirm or compromise your values. You must make a firm decision to make the word of the Lord to take pre-eminence over and above everything else in your life as you make your choices.

But how do I make my choices so that they agree with the principles of the word of God?

Firstly, you must weigh the options available and match them one by one against what the word of God says. Secondly, you must ask yourself tough questions. And these questions will be, if the choices you make will compromise your personal values as the good and godly man, husband and father. Thirdly, you must count the cost, looking at the consequences and see if it is worth it. Fourthly, you must then decide if your choices are consistent with the word of God. If the choices you want to make doesn’t fit into the principles of Scriptures, don’t make the choice and don’t act on it.

You and I as good and godly must give attention to studying our personal Bibles so that we can learn what God is saying to us and allow the word of God to guard and guide the choices we make. This is what makes you and I the good shepherd (Ps.23:1-6).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes as I study to know Your perfect will for my life, wife and children
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the deceitfulness and compromises of life.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to make choices that agree with Your words.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give attention to the study of the words of God and I make choices that agree with what God commands and instructs because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
