Bible Texts: Lk.8:43-48, Eph.5:27, Pro.15:4, Acts.9:34, 2Thess.3:10, Gal.4:19, Philp.2:13, Philp.2:5, Matt.14:14, Eph.4:32, Matt.5:14-16
What I am about to share with you was a brief encounter I had from the story of the woman with the issue of blood in the Bible. I was in church on a Sunday service when the man of God was teaching on faith. He referred us to the passage of Scripture about the woman who for eighteen (18) years had a ceaseless flow of blood. But as I began to read the passage, the Holy Spirit took me on a voyage. He said and I quote “if the woman with the issue of blood for eighteen years touched Him and the healing virtues left Jesus and healed her, then inside every husbandman are the virtues of Christ”.
Did you know why? Ephesians chapter 5 gives the answer.
Husbands love thy wife as Christ hath loved the Church…(Eph.5:25)
In the reading in Luke chapter 8 and verses 43 to 48, the healing virtue flowed from Jesus Christ to the woman and she was healed. As the husbandman, you have the life of Christ in you. You are His representative on earth and in the lives of your wife and children. Christ has given you His life through redemption so that you can think, act, respond and conduct yourself like He would. The question therefore is what virtues flow from you to your wife and children?
As the good and godly husbandman, you must understand that you are the channel of good and godly virtues to your wife and children and that is what makes you count and valuable.
But what are some of the good and godly virtues that must flow from you to them?
Compassion! The virtue of compassion flowed out of Jesus to the woman who was caught in the very act of adultery. When others condemned her, He said to her, go, I condemn you not, thy sins have been forgiven….(Jn.8:11). How often do you extend mercy and forgiveness to your wife and children when they fail? What kind of word comes from your mouth to your wife and children when they disappoint you or make mistakes? You must be compassionate towards them.
Work! Working to earn income and be able to provide the needs of yourself, wife, children and those around you who are in need of help is good and honest virtue. Jesus fed five thousand people excluding women and children. At another time He fed three thousand. For as long as He was around, the people did not lack anything. You are a provider. You are expected to provide for your family, even if your wife earns more than you. But if any provide for his own and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:8). You must rise up and work with your hands and mind. Enough of folding your hands and wishing for manna to fall from the skies. Now is the time to work!
You must understand that you exist as the husbandman because of your wife and children. God made you the head of the family so that you can provide good and godly leadership and influence them for good and for God. And the principal way to make this happen is by allowing the virtues of Christ in you to flow in their direction just as Jesus did to the woman with the issue of blood and the Apostles.
Let the virtues of Christ in you flow to your wife and children. That is your honour as the good and godly husbandman.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with all the virtues of the good and godly husbandman
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to develop the potential of Your virtues in me.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower Your virtues in me to flow towards my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have the fullness of the virtues of Jesus at work in me and they flow abundantly in the direction of my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
