THE MUST-HAVE OF THE HUSBANDMAN (1)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: 1Tim.3:1-7, Gen.1:27, Gen.2:21-25, Rom.12:1, Matt.26:41, 1Pet.5:8, Ps.19:14, Matt.5:14-16, 1Cor.13:5, Acts 1:1, Pro.20:1-3, 2Tim.2:15, 1Tim.6:6, Eph.6:4

If the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do?

This is a foundational question which can corrected if the husbandman can return to finding out what are the qualities or qualification of the good and godly husbandman and ensuring that he possesses it, deliberately.

This is why, today, we are returning to finding out what qualifies the husbandman to be called the good and godly personality.

Now, in every position being offered, there are qualifications that are required of the person who wants to occupy it. And it is when the person possesses those qualifications that he or she is employed or engaged. It is expected that once the person has been engaged, he or she is expected to demonstrate the qualities that define the position. This is what happens in the secular.

Does this same requirement apply to the office of the husbandman and what are the qualifications? Yes, it does. And we shall be considering the required qualifications of the husbandman from 1st Timothy chapter 3 and from verses 1 to 7.

The husband of one wife (1Tim.3:2a)

The first qualification is that he must be the husbandman of one wife. The husbandman must have one wife (woman) and nothing more because God made them man (husband) and woman (wife) (Gen.1:27, Gen.2:21-25, Matt.19:5).

The second qualification is that the husbandman must have these additional qualities.

Vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach (1Tim.3:2b)

From the above Scriptures, there are four characteristics the husbandman must possess. The first is that he must be vigilant in prayers, fasting, studying the word of God and in his action (Matt.26:41, 1Pet.5:8). The second is that he must be of good and godly behaviour in his conduct, attitude, responses and reactions (Ps.19:14, Rom.12:1, Matt.5:14-16). The third is that he must be kind, warm and welcoming to his wife, children and visitors (1Cor.13:5). Fourthly, he must be able to teach his wife and children the values and principles of the word of God (Eph.6:4, 1Pet.3:7-9). The husbandman is his wife and children’s first teacher and pastor and not anyone else. This is why the husbandman must be a life-long learner (2Tim.2:15).

Tomorrow, we shall continue to explore the must-have qualities of the husbandman that makes him good and godly.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being an ungodly example of Your kingdom to my wife and children and in the market place.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, reveal more of Yourself to me through Jesus Christ and by Your word.
  • Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be the good and godly example of the husbandman in words and in deeds.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have received power from God to be like Jesus Christ in all that I think, do and say because that is what qualifies me to be called the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
