WALKING IN THE NEWNESS OF LIFE (2)

Bible Texts: Gen.1:26-28, Gen.3:1-5, Rom.8:5-6, 2Cor.5:17, Rom.6:1, Ps.24:1, Gal.6:8, 1Cor.2:14, Jn.3:6, Jn.4:24

For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be CARNALLY minded is death, but to be SPIRITUALLY minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. (Rom.8:5-8)

Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit helped us to understand that spirituality is the cure to carnality. For you to overcome filthiness of the tongue, lying and deceit, cheating, fornication and adultery, and all forms of ungodliness, you must step up your spirituality. Carnality is not about the fact that you are a pastor of your church or founder of your ministry or even born again. You can be any of these and yet live a carnal life.

Today, let us dwell a little more on the benefits of being spiritual and staying spiritual.

For to be carnally minded is DEATH but to be spiritually minded is LIFE and PEACE (Rom.8:6)

From this verse of Scripture, you will notice that if you are carnal-that is you think like the world and act like them- it will lead to death, both physically and spiritually. Your love for the things of God starts to fade away. You no longer enjoy prayer time. You see reading of your bible as a burden. You desist from fellowshipping with other brethren. These are all indications of carnality which leads to spiritual death. Your carnality deprives you of the power to lead effectively as the husbandman in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.5:25, Eph.6:4, Jos.24:15).

But how does spirituality bring life and peace to me?

Firstly, you are not afraid of accusations because you know that you have done the perfect will of God as the good and godly man, husband and father. Secondly, you are able to build up your spiritual sensitivity that helps you to discern what is right and what is wrong. And because of the ability to discern, you are able to take godly decisions that will glorify God and bring joy to your life as the man, husband and father. Thirdly, you grow in confidence in God and in His capacity because you know that you are doing His will for your life as the husbandman.

So, for you to revive your spiritual life, you must do these things. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to help you get on track to those spiritual works that empower you to think and act according to the Word of God. Get back to your bible and prayerfully study, meditate and act on it day and night (Ps.1:1-3, Jos.1:6-8). Join a fellowship or service group in your local church. Take delight in joining other brethren for fellowship (Ps.133:1-3).

Enough of living a carnal life, as the husbandman! It is now time to awake unto righteousness. Do not let satan, sin and the world take you away from the things of the Spirit in Christ Jesus. Now is the time to be spiritual. It is the access to a life of peace for you, as the man, husband and father.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live by Your Spirit and walk in the newness of life.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy every form of carnality in my life.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, restore to me the joy of my salvation.

 FAITH CONFESSION

I give myself to spiritual demands of prayer, word study, fasting and fellowship with God and walk in the newness of life in Christ Jesus because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
