THIRST FOR GOD AND PURSUE RIGHTEOUSNESS

Bible Texts: Ps.42:1, Ps.14:34, Matt.5:6, Rom.12:1, Heb.12:1-2, Rom.12:21, Rom.8:1, Eph.4:22-24, 2Cor.5:17, Rom.6:1-2, Is.51:1-2, Gal.3:13, 2Cor.9:8

In the past few days, the Person of the Holy Spirit has been teaching and reminding the husbandman of the need to not only confess Jesus Christ as Lord but also walk in righteousness by pleasing God in all ways.

Today, we shall be focusing on what you and I must thirst and hunger for as we journey this path of the good and godly husbandman.

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Ps.42:1)

The same way you thirst after material things and have personal expectations is the same way God wants you to thirst after Him. David says, “as the deer pants for water so does his soul thirsts for God”. David, the husbandman like you and I, always wanted to please God sincerely because of the love he had for God. And this is why God referred to him as the apple of His eyes and a man after His heart.

As the husbandman, it is what you pursue that comes to you and it is what you thirst after that determines how much you are willing to give to quench the thirst. You must understand that your thirst to do what the Bible commands has an eternal impact on your life, the lives of your wife, children and in the market place. And to that extent you must pursue righteousness and live your life to please God in all things.

Hearken to me, ye that FOLLOW AFTER RIGHTEOUSNESS, ye that seek the Lord, look unto the rock whence ye are hewn and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged. Look unto Abraham your father and unto Sarah that bare you…….(Is.51:1-2).

Abraham was a husband like you and I. But one thing that distinguishes him is his righteous walk with God (Gen.18:19). And by redemption you and I have become the seeds of Abraham (Gal.3:10-13). Your hallmark as the husbandman is holiness and righteousness.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled (Matt.5:6)

You cannot be empowered to thirst after God and do righteously if you are not helped by the Holy Spirit (Jn.15:5, Philp.2:13). This means you have to call for the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit to empower your soul, spirit and body to yield to righteous living.

But how do I thirst for God and pant after what is right?

The first step is to make your ways right with God by repenting of your sinful life and inviting Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, into your life as your Lord and Saviour (Jn.3:3-8, 2Cor.5:17). Secondly, you must give attention to studying your Bible and meditating on every word God speaks by the Holy Spirit (Ezk.2:2, Jos.1:6-8, Ps.1:1-3). Thirdly, you must pray for the love of Christ to be abundantly shed in your heart because it is the love of Christ that is in your heart that motivates you to please Him because He first loved you (Rom.5:5-8). Fourthly, you must contend for the faith because of the forces of satan, sin and the world that is always opposing the perfect will of God for your life of godliness (1Cor.16:9, Eph.6:12, 2Cor.10:4). Finally, you must continue to fellowship with like minds in and outside church because iron sharpens iron (Pro.27:17, 1Cor.15:33, Heb.10:25).

Your heavenly Father wants the best for you. Thirst for Him and pursue after righteousness. That is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, wash me clean from every form of filthiness and unrighteousness.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the power of sin.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, pour upon me the spirit of holiness and empower me to walk in that light.

FAITH CONFESSION

I thirst for God and pursue after righteousness in all my pursuits because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
