MAINTAIN A CONTINUAL WATCH

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Mk. 13:36-37, Matt.15:11, Am.6:1, 1Cor.15:33, Matt.15:18, Jn.14:26, Heb.4:12, Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19, Philp.1:18-19, 2Cor.5:17

“Maintain a continual watchfulness so that nothing of which you would be ashamed arises in your life” Oswald Chambers.

Today’s topic is derived from the quote of one of the greatest apostles in Christendom, Oswald Chambers. And it is so relevant for you and I in the times we are living, when the husbandman seems to be careless about his life, not minding eternity, a life beyond here. The man of God, Oswald says, if you maintain a continuous watchfulness over your life and conduct, you will not be afraid of what men will say or accuse you of.

It is very easy for the husbandman to fall into error if he is not careful and watchful. And this is why you and I must be careful off what we allow into our hearts, speak with our mouths and act upon. In all things that we do, we must exercise watchfulness.

Watch ye therefore, for ye know not when the master of the house cometh at even or at midnight or at the cockcrowing or in the morning. Lest coming suddenly he find sleeping. And what I say unto you I say to unto all, watch (Mk.13:35-37)

But how do I maintain watchfulness, as the husbandman?

The first step is to watch the information you receive into your life. This includes the books you read, the films you watch and the messages you listen to. It is the information that you receive into your inner man that influences the quality of your thoughts and how you respond to issues of life (Matt.15:11-18). The second step is for you to constantly engage the ministry and help of the Person of the Holy Ghost so that He can you help to discern right from wrong (Jn.14:26, Heb.4:12). Thirdly, you engage in the continuous study of the word of the God and pray earnestly for the word of God to gain root in your heart and bear fruits in your outward life (Ps.119:105, Mk.9:29, Gal.4:19, 2Tim.2:15).

However, your first step to enjoying the help of God through Jesus Christ in your desire to be watchful over your life, is to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and saviour. This means that you must be born again and accept Him into your life.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things have passed away and behold all things are become new (2Cor.5:17)

The power of God that empowers the husbandman to live a life of victory dwells in a regenerated life. So newness of life is the key that unlocks the door for you to access the power of God that makes you live a victorious life.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the force of carnality.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be spiritual and continually be on the watchtower.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a profitable watchman.

FAITH CONFESSION

I maintain continued watchfulness over who I relate with, where I go, what I read, hear and listen to so that my life can reflect the nature of Jesus Christ in thoughts, action and responses as I walk the pathway to becoming the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
