I have come to realize that the principal way the husbandman can remain the good and godly man, husband and father, and enjoy peace and a life of assurance and hope is to live according to the word of God. Spirituality is the cure to frustration, depression, and discouragement. And this is why we shall be considering the blessings of walking in the newness of life in Christ Jesus.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be CARNALLY minded is death, but to be SPIRITUALLY minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God (Rom.8:5-8)
As the husbandman, your foundation is spiritual because God made you in His image and likeness (Gen.1:26-28, Gen.2:16-18, Jn.4:24). This is why you must be spiritually minded in everything you think and do. You must fight carnality because it leads to loss of family heritage, inner peace, salvation and hope for eternity.
But what does it mean to be spiritually minded and to walk in the newness of life?
It means to be ruled by the word of God. As the man, husband and father, your life must be influenced by the word of God. You must read the WORD, meditate on the WORD, believe the WORD, think the WORD and act on the WORD as way of life.
As the husbandman, your thoughts, decisions, and actions towards your wife, children, and in every aspect of life and relationship must be influenced and determined by what the Bible says and not what the world says. The word of God must take first place over and above your feelings, your emotions, the suggestions of man, and the position of your culture and the society. This is the perfect will of God for you, and that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
How then do I begin my journey towards minding spiritual things and overcoming the power of the flesh?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live by Your Spirit and walk in the newness of life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, destroy every form of carnality in my life.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, restore to me the joy of my salvation.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give myself to spiritual demands of prayer, word study, fasting and fellowship with God and walk in the newness of life in Christ Jesus because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
