OVERCOMING THE ENEMY IN YOU (2)

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Gen.1:28, Rom.12:15, 1Cor.15:10, Ps.139:14, Job 29:15, Gen.2:5, Gen.1:26-28, Jn.10:1-3, Rom.8:1, Jos.1:3-8, Jn.5:39, 2Tim.2:15

Yesterday, with the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, you and I understood that two strong adversaries are in us that we must confront if we are to make our calling as the husbandman good and godly. The first is low self-esteem, which not only makes the husbandman fearful, but also makes him unable to act in faith, boldness, and courage as the man, husband, and father.

Today, let us consider the second enemy. It is called a superiority complex.

This enemy makes you overestimate yourself. It makes you think you are better than everybody and leads you to be arrogant and proud. It makes you feel too high to listen to counsel, too big to be corrected, and too important to be rebuked. This enemy makes you feel you are too big to do small things for your wife and your children. It makes you have the master-slave mentality towards your wife and your children. This is the enemy in you that you must subdue in your walk as the good and godly husbandman.

Listen to what Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, said in the Gospel of John 8.

I am from above, you came from the earth…..(Jn.8:23)

Although Jesus knew His worth and was conscious of His God-like nature, He did not rub it in the faces of His disciples. He recognized that whatever He became is because of the help of His heavenly Father, hence He remained humbled even to the Cross (Philp.2:6-7). This was His motivation to serve His disciples with humility of heart.

As the head of the family, you must be very careful of this enemy because it gives birth to pride and arrogance. A lot of husbandmen have gone astray because of this enemy. They refuse to listen to counsel, take corrections, and make amends because they are always right in their own eyes while every other person is wrong.

As the good and godly shepherd, you must learn to listen. Your wife and your children must be able to access you to offer you advice, corrections, and admonition.

So, how do I deal with this enemy?

You must walk in the consciousness of who you are, where you are from, and what you are worth from the Word of God, knowing that you are what you are by the grace of God (1Cor.15:10).

You must seek and continue to seek to know and rediscover your identity in Jesus Christ so that you do not get lost in arrogance, pride, and false estimation of yourself.

You must engage the weapon of prayer and fasting to overcome the tendencies to become egoistic, proud, and arrogant (Mk.9:29).

You must remain small in the eyes of God by giving glory to God in your thoughts, words, and actions.

Deal with your low self-esteem and pride, and watch your life as the husbandman leaps in goodness and godliness.

Hallelujah!

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for over-estimating myself and living a life of pride and arrogance.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to discover my worth in Your word and help me live by it.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be humble in heart, words and actions as the man, husband and father, bringing honour and glory to Your name and to my family.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am what I am by the grace of God, and I walk in the reality of who God says I am, where He says I am from and what He says I am worth because that is my heritage as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
