Main Scriptures: 2Kgs.1:1-2
More Scriptures: Matt.6:22, Is.57:16, Eph.2:4
When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were travelling to Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, stay here for the Lord has told me to go to Bethel. But Elisha replied, as surely as the Lord lives and yourself live, I will never leave you. So they went down together to Bethel (2Kgs.2:1-2) NLT
I have remarked repeatedly that it takes two to find. It took Joseph and Mary to find Jesus. As the head of the family and the spiritual authority over your flock, you must continually be a source of assurance to your wife and children. On a daily basis, the confidence of your wife and children must grow to the extent that they see you as a model to emulate and an influence to reference. This was exactly what happened between Elijah and Elisha. Despite the mockery that Elisha suffered from people around him, he did not waver in his determination to partake of the grace upon the life of Elijah. And Elijah said to Elisha, stay here, for the Lord has told me to go to Bethel. But Elisha replies, as surely as the Lord lives and yourself live, I will never leave you. So they went down together to Bethel (2Kg.2:2).
So, the questions you and I must ask ourselves is this, “how much confidence does our flock repose in us and are we setting Biblical standards for them to follow?”. But how do I build the confidence in the hearts of my wife and what are the practical steps that I must take to become a good and godly husband to my sheep? The first step is to receive the Lordship of Jesus into your life. According to Acts 10, the Scripture affirms that Jesus Christ is Lord over all. When He becomes your Lord, He becomes the basis for your decisions and your standards for living, hence as He was with the Twelve (12) so will you be with your flock. Secondly, you must engage the altar of prayers to overcome distractions (Matt.6:22). There will always be things that will want to take your attention away from your flock. It is only the weapon of prayers that can build your faith to please the Lord-being an advantage to your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me an advantage to my wife and children.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from distractions.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to build up myself in the most holy faith thereby inspiring my flock.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am the assurance that my wife and children need because that is my glory as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
