Do you really know your true personality and worth as the good shepherd? Do you know the fullness of your heritage as the good and godly husband? Today, I will be sharing with you the seeds of greatness that God has deposited inside you. Another word for the husbandman is a shepherd. The husbandman is also a leader. In Jn.15:1, the word of God calls God “The Husbandman”. And because you are made in His image and likeness you have taken his nature. So that whatever God is to you is what you are to your wife and children. In Ps. 100, the Scripture has this to say. “we are the sheep of His pasture (Ps.100:3)”. Also in the same way Jesus Christ shepherds His Church is the same way you are to be the shepherd to your sheep-your wife and children. Another dimension of your personality is that you are a father both to your wife and children. You are their abba. So that whatever Jesus Christ is to you and I as the heads of our families is what we are to demonstrate to our sheep.
So, who am I as an abba to my wife and children and what are the characteristics that define my headship in my family fold? Firstly, you are the source of your wife and children. Your wife and children derive their existence in God through you. From Scriptures, the woman was taken from the man and the seed that produces the child comes from the man. You married your wife hence she answers your name. And to that extent you have become the foundation upon which she stands. And according to Ps.133:1-3, everything flows from you to her. Furthermore, the genetic composition of your children comes from you. So, your children manifest some traits that could be identified with you. Consequently, the Bible commands you and not your wife to nurture and train your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). That is why when the children of Priest Eli misbehaved God held him responsible (1Sam.3:12-14). And when Prophet Samuel’s children began to live a riotous life, God held their father responsible (1Sam.8:1-7). This is to say that as the source, you occupy an important place in the moulding, and remoulding of your wife and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a fruitful vine to my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the power to function as the good and godly shepherd in my sheepfold.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from every careless living.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am empowered by God through the Holy Spirit to function maximally as the good and godly husband in my sheepfold in Jesus Name. Amen.
