Main Scriptures: 1Kgs. 2:1-2
More Scriptures: Is.40:30-32, Lk.10:19, Rev.5:10
Let me remark here that you require more spiritual stamina to rule effectively in your sheepfold. This is because the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the very strong. As the head of your family and the spiritual authority over your sheepfold, you must gain spiritual mastery of the affairs of your sheep and your sheepfold before you can begin to exercise physical influence. This is why the Scripture encourages you to be strong if you want to show to your sheep that you are indeed the godly man, husband and father.
I go the way of all the earth, be thou strong therefore and show thyself a man (1Kgs.2:2). It was a story of Bathsheba’s husband, David. As he was getting older, he needed to tell another husband, who happened to be his son, Solomon, about the need to be strong. This husband understood from his encounter with adultery that he fell because he was not strong in the faith. And so, he wanted to tell his son, that if he must rule successfully as the godly husband and leader, he must be strong spiritually. Unfortunately, his son was weak and he became an eyesore; his heart was turned to other gods; he built temples for these gods.
As a husband, it is very important for you to be strong in the things of godliness. Every time, you are strong in the Lord and His righteousness, your wife and children will have foundation upon which to build their hope for a better tomorrow. The kind of strength God is talking about here is not that which comes from your physical make up. It is not in your weight or height. It is infact in your spiritual stamina. As you lead your family daily, you will be confronted with challenges from within and from without. It could in the area of the health of your wife and children. It may also be in the attitude of your wife and children. It may even be in family finance. If you are not strong in faith, you may snap and react negatively to your wife and children. And that is what the enemy wants to see happen in your life.
So, for you to build your spiritual stamina for triumph, you must be willing and committed to give yourself to spiritual exercises. And one of those exercises is prayer and fasting. In Is.40:30-32, the Bible says that they that wait upon the Lord, they shall renew their strength. This is to tell you that for you to continually renew your strength, you will need to rule your wife and children, administer righteousness in your sheepfold, you must be a husband who fasts and prays as a lifestyle. You will always need these spiritual exercises if you want to remain strong. The second is that you must continue to act in faith your confidence and authority. Keep declaring and keep believing. You are a victor.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, strengthen my inner man.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me embrace spiritual discipline of prayer with fasting for the good of my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, confirm every word that I speak with answers.
FAITH CONFESSION
I give myself to the demands of a lifestyle of prayer and fasting to generate the power I require to lead my sheep as the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
