LEADERSHIP IN THE SHEEPFOLD (13)- RESPONSIBLE FATHER

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Tim.3:1-7

More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Matt.6:10, 1Sam.3:13

A leader must be attentive to his own children and having their respect. For if someone is unable to handle his own affairs, how can he take care of God’s church………(1Tim.3:4-7) MSG

Praise God in the highest! Today is the last day of our teaching series on how you and I can become the leader that God will be proud of and our sheep will celebrate all the days of their lives. The will of God is for His kingdom to be duplicated in the lives of our sheep and sheepfold. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matt.6:10). I am confident that we have all had diverse encounters in the last twelve (12) days. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that you and I shall become the good and godly men, husbands and fathers to our sheep. Amen.

So, the last leadership quality that you must have is your ability to be attentive to your children and earn their respect. This implies that having led your wife, you must not lose sight of impacting your children for God. Your children are not just numbers. They are God’s gifts. Lo, children are heritage from the Lord (Ps.127:3). God gave them to you so that you can do these two very important functions. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). God wants you to nurture your children and train them in the way of the Lord. And this requires that you give them maximum attention. Just like the wise farmer would act, you have planted seeds (spermatozoa) and now those seeds have brought forth fruits (children). You cannot afford to be careless with your harvest (children). You must not claim that you are too busy for your children. No matter what you are doing, you can make time out to interact with your children. It could be five minutes. It may be ten minutes. It could 30 minutes. Whatever time it is that you have decided to spend with your children, ensure that two things happen. Firstly, you ask them questions about their lives-spirit, soul and body. You do this to hear them discuss their hopes, fears, doubts, expectations and dislikes with you. And be willing to guide them through. Secondly, ask them to tell you what they would want you to do for and with them. This will help you to see through them what they think of you. This healthy conversation will strengthen the bond of friendship between you and your children. You must not go the way of Priest Eli, who got busy with work and never gave attention to his children. He consequently couldn’t control them and they became a burden to the people. God was unhappy and held the father responsible for the attitude of his children. Both father and children died. Yours will not end up tragically in Jesus Name. Amen. You must rise up and be responsible for leading your children in the ways of God. And as you execute your office as the father of your children, you will earn their respect and enjoy peace of mind.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask You to forgive me for not paying attention to my children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, I ask for Your mercy to prevail in my life for not leading my children in Your ways.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me nurture my children in the way and admonition of the Lord.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive the power to nurture my children in the way and admonition of the Lord because that is the gateway for me to become the good and godly father in Jesus Name. Amen.
