Main Scriptures: Eph.5:1-2
More Scriptures: Phil.3:17, 1Thess.1:6, Eph.5:1
I have come to discover that the fastest and quickest way to ascend your throne as the godly man, husband and father is by following the footsteps of Jesus Christ and serving your sheep willing, cheerfully, and delightsomely. It is often said that until you learn how to be a follower, you cannot be an effectual leader. This is why as the head of your family, you must understand that followership or loyalty from your wife and children begins with you following the Person of Jesus Christ. Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children, and walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour (Eph.5:1-2). Paul was speaking to his followers the same way your wife and children are ordained by God to follow you. They are your sheep and you are their shepherd. For instance, Isaac followed his father and Sarah also followed her husband, Abraham (Gen.12:1-3). God wants your wife and children to follow you in the path of righteousness by you leading them in the way of the Lord (1Cor.11:1b).
But for you to lead your wife and children in the things that are right, you must first be a follower of Jesus Christ. His life must reflect in your own life-the thought of your heart, your speech, you conduct on and off the home front. It is your walk with God that determines how much influence you will have over your wife and children. Your life must demonstrate your unwavering submission to the will of God, from His Word- Bible. In Matt.5, the word of God says, let your light so shine before men that they may glorify God Who is in heaven. As a husband, if your wife and children have become rebellious or resist following you, you must ask yourself these following questions. Am I living a transparent life that my wife and children can emulate? Have I truly been a worthy mentor to them? Does my action toward my wife and children and the things of God agrees with what I say? Have I done something different from what I teach or say? Your wife and children are watching you. If they don’t see you as a worthy example, they will not follow you no matter how much you shout or intimidate them. Therefore, you must continue to examine your life to see if you are still doing the right thing to God and to them (2Cor.13:5).
