WHO DROPS THE BALL FIRST?

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Gen.3:6-19

More Scriptures: Ps.51:1, Lk.16:16, Lk.1:9

And they heard the voice of the Lord walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself. And he said, who told thee that thou was naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And THE MAN SAID, THE WOMAN WHOM THOU GAVEST TO BE WITH ME, SHE GAVE ME OF THE TREE, AND I DID EAT (Gen.3:8-12).

Few days ago, I just discovered the place of accepting responsibilities as a leader. I also learnt that when you point accusing fingers at someone, three out of your five fingers point directly to you. And this explains why the Word of God says that we should consider our ways and examine ourselves. So, I pray that as you give attention to today’s devotional, you will take a second look at your life if really you aren’t  the cause of the tension in your sheepfold. One of the greatest disasters any husbandman will make in leading his family is to be the first person to drop the ball-play the blame-game. It is an act of irresponsibility to blame your sheep and others for your failure as the shepherd of your sheep. God is not a respecter of persons. If He didn’t take it lightly with the first husband, Adam for dropping the ball first, He will not change His position with you if you are quick to drop the ball first. As the head of your family, God wants you to be responsible and to take full responsibility for the success and failure of the family kingdom He has committed into your hands. Now imagine this for a moment. You asked your first child to take charge of an assignment. You gave him or her everything required to succeed. From time to time, you communicated with him or her about the assignment. And when he or she presented the results of the assignment, it was failure through and through. When you asked why, he or she responded that it is the staff or one of the team members that made him or her to fail. What would you make of this? Firstly, you will consider him as an irresponsible leader. Secondly, you may not only stop to give him more assignments, you may sanction him for wasting resources. This is the same way God feels towards every husband who is quick to drop the ball. God has never and will not make your wife or children the head of the family kingdom. He ordained you as the leader, so He demands 100% responsibility and accountability from you. Like I always remark, if your family succeeds it is your gain, if it fails, it is your fault.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the blame game spirit.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, grant me courage to accept the outcomes of the husbandman.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to lead my wife and children as the true leader.

FAITH CONFESSION

I refuse to drop the ball, but I take full responsibility of the outcomes of my family fold because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
