THOU SHALL NOT STEAL

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ex.20:15

More Scriptures: Ps.1:3, Rom.6:14, Mk.9:29

I believe that you may have heard of or read this statement several times over, either when you were a little boy or a young adult. Well, let me remind you, just in case you have forgotten. It is one of the ten (10) commandments that God gave to the people of Israel through Moses. And it is still relevant today. So, what is the importance of this commandment to me as the good and godly shepherd?

Few weeks ago, the Person of the Holy Spirit brought this truth to me in a different dimension. He said, “when a husband engages in adultery, he steals what doesn’t not belong to him” He went further and said, “every woman belongs to a man (Gen.2:15-18), so when a husband begins an adulterous relationship with a woman, he has stolen the woman from her man”.

Now what does this mean? It means that as a husband, it is not only when you steal money, materials or even position that you are referred to as a thief. If you have sexual relationship with a woman who is not your wife, you are a thief. Yes! You are a thief. You have stolen the woman from her man, either present or future. So, the next time you accuse those who steal, ask yourself if you have not taken a woman who belongs to another man.

But how do I overcome this force? Firstly, you must engage the powerful forces of prayer and fasting. One important benefit of prayer and fasting is that it generates in you the power to overcome the mystery of sin. The prayer and fasting altar help you to connect to the powers of the world to come to overcome the attraction of sin and its offerings (Mk.9:29). Secondly, engage the force of speaking in unknown tongues. This means speaking in the language of the Holy Ghost. In Romans 6:14, the Scripture explains sin as a dominant force. And because adultery is a forceful sin, you would require a greater force to conquer it. Thirdly, take a firm stand and decide the kind of relationship that you want to have. As a husband, you must decide who should be your friends and define the boundaries. Why is this so? The word of God admonishes us that bad company corrupt good manners.

And as you walk in that light of living a life of holiness, you will be like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water whose leaves do not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper (Ps.1:1-6). Let this truth guide you continually, “whatever will not bring honour to God and the Kingdom of God is not worth doing”

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by Your Spirit, endue me with power to overcome the forceful power of adultery.
  • Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, set me apart from every ungodly relationship.
  • Father, by Your Spirit, set my life in order and let my life please You in all things and at all times.

FAITH CONFESSION

The force of adultery shall not have dominion over me anymore because I have the power of God working in me to live as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
