Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me, or else believe me for the very works sake. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also, and greater works than these shall he do because I go unto my Father (Jn.14:10-12). As a husband and the representative of Jesus in your family fold, do you know the works of Jesus? This is important because if you do not know His works, you will not have a basis to strive for excellence as the good shepherd to your wife and children.
In our main text today, the word of God says …believe me for the very works’ sake. Jesus had a testimony. He had proofs. And He projected it humbly for all to see. That is what is expected of you as the head and leader of your family kingdom. As the head of your family, your works must speak louder than anything else in the lives of your wife and children. Your works define your life. This is why Jesus speaking said, “by their fruits, ye shall know them” (Matt.7:16). Are you a fruit bearing tree? And if you are, what kind of fruits are you bearing? Your life is designed to bless your wife and children and not hurt them. Through your works, their lives should have encountered great improvements spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally.
But what are some of the works of Jesus, which you must demonstrate as you relate with your wife and children? The first is the work of forgiveness. When He was on the Cross, one of the thieves abused Him. Yet, rather than being bitter against him, He forgave him. He did not hold grudge against anyone who hurt Him from His arrest to His crucifixion. On the Cross, He said, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing (Lk.23:24). You can also do the same. There is no sin that your wife or children may have committed against you that cannot be forgiven. If Jesus Christ could forgive us of all our trespasses, then you and I have every reason to forgive our flocks. Secondly, it is the works of mercy and compassion. When blind Bartimaeus cried out with a loud voice to Jesus Christ for help, He stood still. Jesus Christ listened to his pains and out of compassion and mercy, He restored his sights. You must be responsive to the inner hurts of your flock.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to do greater works in the lives of my wife and children.
- Father, by Your Spirit, reveal to me my true worth as the good and godly man, husband and father.
- Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to function in every area of my life as the good shepherd.
FAITH CONFESSION
I do greater works in and around my wife and children, and sheepfold because I represent Jesus in my home as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
