Let us take the eleventh capsule.
Capsule 11: UNTIL YOUR SEEDS POSSESS THE GATES OF THEIR ENEMIES, YOU HAVE NOT ATTAINED YOUR FULL POTENTIAL AS THE GODLY SHEPHERD.
And they blessed Rebekah and said unto her, thou art our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of million and let thy seed possess the gates of those who hate you. (Gen.24:60)
The will of God for you as the good and godly shepherd is to develop your sheep into maturity-growing up to become like Christ to the world. And that is what the Scripture describes you as-the leader over your sheep and sheepfold. You must understand that you are a mentor to your wife and children. Your children should reproduce after your nature in the marketplace of life. So, don’t see yourself as an ordinary husbandman but someone with enormous power to replicate in your children a people who can stand at the gates of the enemy. But what does it mean for your sheep to possess the gates of those who hate you? It simply means that your sheep are able to defend themselves against any form of external aggression and defend you even if you are not there. Unfortunately, there are many shepherds who have lost the support of their sheep.
So, how I trigger my children to possess the gates of their enemies and mine as the godly husbandman? You achieve this by doing what the Bible says. Fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). You have the onerous responsibility to teach your children the knowledge of God’s word. You also have the responsibility to guide your children through the word of God. You are their first teacher. And it is the knowledge of the Person and Power of Jesus Christ that you teach them that empowers them to overcome satan, sin and the world. Your children are arrows in your hands. How well you shoot them, will determine how far and well they go. You must prepare your children with the weapon of the word of God. Secondly, intercede for your children deliberately. As the godly husbandman, you need to pray for your sheep so that they will believe, accept and work with every virtue you teach them from the word of God. If you can learn how to win on your knees for your sheep, you will stand tall before them.
Therefore, plan for your seed and prepare them for tomorrow. Don’t allow satan, sin and the world corrupt your seeds. Don’t become too busy for your sheep. Don’t let down your guard as the shepherd over your sheepfold. Get down to work and build a good and godly sheep. Are you happy that you are the godly father? Can you see a bright future ahead for your children?
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes of understanding to discover Your plan for my life and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to build up my children in Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let my prayer altar continue to burn for the good of my children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have decided to develop my children in the way and admonition of the Lord so that they possess the gates of their enemies because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
