When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. (1Cor.9:22) NLT
As the head of the family and the spiritual leader of the home, do you share in the weakness of your wife and children? Do you give your all to ensure that your wife and children are saved from their weakness? Our main Bible passage today tells us of how Apostle Paul shared and did everything possible to help his followers overcome their weaknesses. That is the attitude that God wants you to demonstrate as the good and godly husbandman to your wife and children. It is necessary that you do not dwell on the faults and weaknesses of your wife and children. As the godly shepherd, you must not use the weakness of your wife and children as a weapon to oppress them. You must remember that your wife and children are not perfect people. Each time you dwell at the failings of your wife and children, it tends to get bigger and shuts your eyes from seeing their good sides and strength. And that is what the devil wants you to continue to do. So, no matter what your wife and children do, you will never see anything good in them.
Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, did not dwell on our weakness. While we were in sin and full of faults and weakness, He died for us. He came down to rescue us. He did not consider our weakness or failings. He loved us and gave Himself to us. That is the character of the godly husbandman. You must be willing to lay down your guard of criticism about your wife and children and lift up the banner of love. You must celebrate their strength rather than their weaknesses. Looking away from your wife’s and children’s faults does not imply that those inadequacies do not exist. They exist. Do I look away from those faults and allow them to be destroyed? No. So what do I do to ensure that my wife and children overcome their weakness?
The Bible gave the answer. It says, I travail in prayer that Christ be formed in you (Gal.4:19). From this Scripture, the most important thing that you must do is to engage the weapon of prayer to enforce the needed changes you want in their lives. You cannot allow them to live their lives the way they want to. You are the head of the family. God placed you as the shepherd over them and would demand accountability from you of what you did and did not do. You must remember that their joy is your joy. Their happiness is your happiness. Their pain is your pain. You must never give up on your wife and children. It is too early to quit. You have a mandate from God to demonstrate His love to them and help them overcome their weakness.
