Bible Texts: Jn.1:37-45, Gen.12:1, 1Sam.1:3, Gen.14:14
I want to challenge every husband who truly wants to be a husband in the real sense of being a husband to accept that he is the head to lead his flock, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically and in giving direction and mentorship. He is not in charge of his family to be led by his wife or children. This is not to say that your wife is not important in the administration of the family kingdom. But in the family government as ordained and established by God, there is always a head and that is YOU; hence today’s devotional topic is very apt. Jesus led the disciples and not the other way round. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of how husbands are to behave in all things.
In several passages of the Scripture, He was and is described as the Bridegroom. So if Jesus led His disciples, you must do likewise. Jesus was called Master by His flock not because He was Jesus but because He demonstrated quality leadership. Do not descend so low to be fed and led by your wife. You cannot be honourable when you choose to twist the order- being led by your wife. Therefore, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that every foundational error of your life that has made you look unfit to becoming a good and godly husband to your wife and children be corrected. I also pray that the grace that you need to act like a husband indeed be released for you in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
But what do I need to truly lead my wife and children in the way that God would? First you must react to every attack of the enemy that wants to devalue your position as the head of your family. Satan is jealous of your position. He is as a roaring lion walking about, seeking the husband that he will take advantage of (1Pet.5:8). The devil, your enemy, wants to get you to a point where you don’t have absolute authority in the affairs of your home; a situation where your voice cannot be heard and be taking very seriously by your flock because you cannot provide for your family and fund the needs of your flock. Secondly, you must seize the moment as the head of the family to live out the life of Christ for your wife and children (2Pet.5:2).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your Spirit, teach me to fulfill my role as a husband.
- Father, uphold me with Your grace to walk in the stead of a good and godly husband.
- Father, deliver me from every wrong foundation responsible for my misbehavior.
FAITH CONFESSION
I take full charge of my family kingdom, leading my wife and children as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
