HUSBANDS, BREAK THE SILENCE!

Spread the love

Bible Texts: Heb. 13:16, 1Pt.3:7, Matt.5:45, Eph.4:29

I have discovered that keeping the communication lines open with God and your wife is very important for your position as the head and spiritual leader of your family. It is one of the wisdom keys to keep the enemy away from your home. When you communicate with God and your wife, you understand the minds of God and your sheep. One of the major factors responsible for the heat and pressure that husbands experience in their relationship with their wives and children is poor communication. Yes, it is true that your wife and children have misbehaved. They may have said or done things that may have hurt you very badly. But the Holy Spirit is saying to you this day, break the silence. Open the line of communication again with them.

But how do I break the silence? You break the silence by talking to them. Perhaps, you are not on speaking terms with your wife and children. This is the time for you to talk with them, not with words that will condemn them but words that will edify them. You also break the silence by forgiving them. In Matt.6, Jesus Christ gave a pattern of sowing and reaping when He said, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. No matter the trespasses your wife and children may have committed against you, your perfect example, Jesus Christ says, forgive them. Sometimes your wife and children may be afraid to talk to you for fear of being insulted by you. Take the initiative by calling them and tell them in love “I have forgiven you”. And the proof that you have forgiven them is by erasing their errors totally from your mind and not bringing it up again in future discussions.

But why must I break the silence with my wife and children? First, so that your prayers can be answered (1Pt.3:7). Secondly, it shows that you have the nature of God in you (Matt.5:45). Remember that you are a father figure to your wife and children. Your lifestyle should reflect the fatherhood nature of God. They should be able to see God as a loving and forgiving Father through your conduct and the way you relate with them.

Hear this truth husbands. Taking the initiative to talk to your wife and children or call them to openly tell and assure them that you have forgiven them or apologize to them for your own misconduct is not a sign of weakness. Rather, it is a sign of maturity. Just like my father in the faith, Bishop David Oyedepo once said that it takes two to fight. It will also take two to communicate. So, if your wife and children have kept silence, you can make them talk by talking to them. Silence is a sign of the graveyard. Your home is not a grave yard. Don’t allow the devil to make it one and don’t allow yourself to be used by him to make your family a cemetery.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, by the Precious blood of Jesus Christ, deliver me from the power of bitterness against my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with Your Spirit of love to love my wife and children again.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with Your grace to sustain and continue to love my wife and children unconditionally.

FAITH CONFESSION

I dare to break the silence with my wife and children because I am a good and godly husband to them in Jesus name. Amen.
