Bible Texts: Lk.18:1, Eph.6:18, Rom.12:12, 1Thess.5:17, Lk.10:19, Matt.7:7, Jas.1:2-7, Gal.4:19
Prayer is an important requirement for the growth and development of the husbandman that wants to become and remain good and godly. Prayer is the platform God has provided for you and I to access and develop the virtues that make us fit to be called the good and godly man, husband and father. This is why today, I want us to consider the place of prayer as we journey through our function as godly husbandmen.
And he (Jesus Christ) spake a parable unto them to this end, THAT MEN OUGHT ALWAYS TO PRAY, AND NOT FAINT. (Lk.18:1).
Note the words of Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, in bold and underlined. He says “you ought to always pray……”. So you don’t pray occasionally but daily. You don’t pray as a choice but pray as a lifestyle. Now when is the best time for you to pray for your wife and children? How often should you pray for them? And when do you stop praying for them? The answer to these questions is to pray always.
If you study the life of Jesus, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, you will understand that He gave Himself continually to praying for His sheep. Even at the point of His death He prayed for the people. And when He was about to go to the Cross to die for you and I, He still prayed for the people (Jn.17). This is what informed Jesus’s admonition for you and I to always pray and not faint.
But why should I pray always? The answer is so that you do not faint when the challenges of life show up in your life and as your lead your wife and children. Many husbandmen have given up on God, their wife, children and life because of the issues of life. But when you pray as a lifestyle, the Person of the Holy Ghost builds your inner man for strength and stability. Secondly, you pray to access the words of God from the Bible that you will require to function as the good and godly man, husband and father. David prayed that God will open his eyes to behold wondrous things out of the law. And in Ephesians chapter 1 and verse 18, the Bible tells that, I pray that your eyes of understanding be enlightened that you may know the hope of your calling…(Eph.1:18). Thirdly, you pray so that the words and virtues that make for good and godly husbandman can have practical expression in your life and conduct. The Bible says that it is God who who worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Philp.2:13).
As the good and godly husbandman, you must continue to exercise yourself in effectual prayer life so that you can become all that God wants you to be to Him, your wife, children and the world.
SPIRITUAL EXRCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of grace and supplication.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to build an effectual prayer altar for my life and family.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to pray according to Your word and Your will for my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I keep my prayer altar burning and I pray in faith for my life, my wife and children because that is what strengthens my position as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
