JUMPING OVER THE LANDMINES (1)

In the next few days, I want us to explore the concept of landmines and see how the understanding of what it is will assist you and I, who are pursuing the mandate of God to become good and godly husbandmen, to be alert to the tricks of satan, sin and the world and deal triumphantly over the works of the enemy. So, I encourage you to give attention to the teachings. And I pray that the Person of the Holy Spirit will expand His word in your heart and make you escape the devices of the devil in Jesus name. Amen.

In wars and battle fields, one of the weapons the enemy uses against the opposing sides is to lay landmines in unsuspecting areas, expecting the opposing forces will walk on the landmines unknowingly and be destroyed or killed. But what are some characteristics of landmines?

The first is that landmines are hidden so the opposing force is unaware that landmines are laid underground. Secondly, you are not prepared for the attack. Thirdly, the opposing force steps on the landmines at the least unsuspecting moment. That is what satan, sin and the world is doing to the husbandman.

Be sober and watch because your adversary, the devil, as a roaring lion, goeth about seeking whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8).

Many husbandmen have stepped on landmines that have destroyed their lives, their mandate as godly men, husbands and fathers and their relationships with their wife and children and have never remained the same. The Scripture tells us something very striking about our adversary, satan. In John gospel chapter 10 and verse 10, the Word of God says,

Satan came but to steal, to kill and to destroy (Jn.10:10).

The devil’s ultimate aim when he lays landmines for the husbandman is to steal his relationship with his wife and children, destroy his glorious heritage in Christ and ultimately kill him. So, let us consider the kind of landmines satan, sin and the world lay for the husbandman.

The first landmine is divorce. Satan, sin and the world tell you that your wife is not good for you anymore. They tell you that it is acceptable to break the covenant of marriage with your wife. They tell you that your wife’s failures and failings are unpardonable. They tell you that reconciliation with your wife is not the option. They give you several reasons why divorce is the best option. But hear what the One who instituted the office of the husbandhood says in Malachi chapter 2 and verse 14 and Matthew chapter 19:5.

Yet ye say, wherefore? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth against whom thou hast dealt treacherously, yet she is thy COMPANION and the WIFE of thy youth…. For the Lord, the God of Israel saith that he HATETH PUTTING AWAY for one COVERETH VIOLENCE WITH HIS GARMENT saith the Lord of hosts, therefore TAKE HEED to YOUR SPIRIT that ye deal not treacherously (Mal.2:14).

And

The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him and saying unto him, is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? And he said, for this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. Wherefore, they are no more twain but one flesh. What therefore GOD HATH JOINED TOGETHER, LET NO MAN PUT ASUNDER (Matt.19:5).

Don’t let satan, sin and the world separate from your wife. Do not step on the landmine of divorce. God wants you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church and gave Himself to it despite it failures, failings and inadequacies. God wants you to be reconciled with your wife. God wants His love to be shed abroad in your heart and allow the same love to flow to your wife as Christ has done for humanity (Rom.5:5, Jn.3:16).  

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

• Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see where the landmine of divorce is laid for me.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to overcome the landmine of divorce.
• Father, in the Name of Jesus, and by the blood of Jesus, empower me to reconcile every irreconcilable differences between my wife and I.

FAITH CONFESSION:

I overcome the landmine of divorce by the word of the Lord and I live peaceably and joyfully with my wife because it is the will of God for me as the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
