Bible Texts: 1Tim.3:1-7, Gen.1:27, Gen.2:21-25, Rom.12:1, Matt.26:41, 1Pet.5:8, Ps.19:14, Matt.5:14-16, 1Cor.13:5, Acts 1:1, Pro.20:1-3, 2Tim.2:15, 1Tim.6:6, Eph.6:4
Yesterday, by the help of the Person of the Holy Spirit, we started to understand that even if the husbandman has laid wrong foundations as the man, husband and father, he can restart to rebuild a good and godly foundation by knowing what the qualities of the good and godly husbandman are and committing himself to fulfilling the demands.
Today, let us continue, even as I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that the zeal of the office of the husbandman shall consume you to the end that you become the good and godly man, husband and father. Amen.
The other qualification is that the husbandman must be a honourable personality.
Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre but patient, not a brawler, not covetous (1Tim.3:3)
Few attributes that do not fit the office of the husbandman are mentioned here- alcoholic consumption, greed, fighter and covetousness.
Drinking of alcohol or strong drink does not qualify the husbandman as good and godly and the redeemed of the Lord, notwithstanding the lies by the world (Pro.20:1-3). He must not be greedy for gain and to want to have everything to himself without considering others (1Tim.6:6). He must not physically abuse his wife, children or others. This means that he must work on his emotions and put it under control.
The other qualification is that the husbandman must have the ability to control the affairs of his home beginning with his wife and children in the love, fear and admonition of the Lord Jesus Christ.
One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity 1Tim.3:4)
The first and most important church for the husbandman is his own family, which is made up of himself, his wife and children. His good and godly leadership starts from his own family, beginning with how he trains and nurtures his children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).
Now that you have been reminded of the qualifications for the office of the husbandman, do you qualify or fit to be called the good and godly husbandman? Are you doing those things as prescribed in 1st Timothy chapter 3 and verses 2 to 4 or you are failing in your responsibilities?
Today is the day of repentance. Today is the day for you to begin an intentional walk and work towards becoming the good and godly husbandman. You can the good and godly husbandman because Christ is in you, the hope of glory (2Cor.5:17, Phlip.2:13).
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being an ungodly example of Your kingdom to my wife and children and in the market place.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, reveal more of Yourself to me through Jesus Christ and by Your word.
- Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be the good and godly example of the husbandman in words and in deeds.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have received power from God to be like Jesus Christ in all that I think, do and say because that is what qualifies me to be called the good and godly husbandman in Jesus name. Amen.
