Bible Texts: Lk.7:12-13, Rom.5:5, Rom.12:21, Rev.5:5, Heb.4:15, 2Cor.5:14, Ps.145:8, Ps.103:8, Jn.14:26, Lk.18:1, Philp.2:13

Today’s topic is a clarion all to the husbandman reading this devotional. God wants you to be compassionate towards his wife, children and those who may be hurting around him

One of the virtues of the good and godly husbandman is compassion, and that is what God wants you to extend to your wife and children because they are hurting and you may not know it.

But what is compassion?

Compassion simply means feeling the discomfort and pain of others as though you are the one.

Now consider the Scripture in Luke chapter 7 and see how Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, responded to the woman who lost her son.

Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother and she was a widow and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said unto her, weep not. (Lk.7:12-13)

Jesus, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, had compassion on the woman whose son was dead. Jesus saw the burial procession of the woman’s son, and He asked questions. He wanted to know what happened. He had compassion when He saw the woman’s tears and pain. Jesus brought her dead son back to life. Jesus made her laugh again. That is who you are. That is the nature of Christ that God wants you to have as the husbandman. You are in the lives of your wife and your children to make them laugh. Your presence in their lives is to wipe away their pains, whether they be spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, or financial.

We have a High Priest who is touched with the feeling of our infirmities….(Heb.4:15)

By redemption, you are a high priest to your wife and children. You also have the same Spirit that raised Jesus Christ from the dead by redemption. This means that you have the power to be compassionate towards your wife and your children. You feel their pains, fears and struggles. Their joy becomes yours and their pains also become yours.

For the love of Christ constraineth us (2Cor.5:14)

It is the love of Jesus Christ in your heart that keeps you in check and helps you to be compassionate. Even when your wife and children deserve what they are getting because of their own faults, the love of Christ, which is also the spirit of compassion, overrides their faults, and moves you to forgive them, help them out of their struggles and makes you remain consistent in praying for them until their change comes (Gal.4:19).

But how do I develop the virtue of compassion, which is the nature of Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman?

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, uproot every seed of bitterness, strife, unforgiveness and selfishness in my heart.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill my heart with Your love and let it move me to forgive easily and be compassionate and merciful to others.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man with divine nature and make me function like Christ.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have the mind of Jesus Christ and by it I possess and manifest the nature of mercy and compassion towards my wife and children because that is what makes me the good and godly husbandman in Jesus Name. Amen.
