Bible Texts: Gal.5:19-26, Gal.5:16, Eph.4:23, 1Pet.2:5
Now the works of the flesh are manifest which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling……. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance… (Gal.5:19-26) KJV
The will of God in making you the head of your family is so you can bear righteous fruits in your family fold, thereby impacting the world. God’s plan and purpose for your headship is to be a good and godly husbandman. But you cannot fulfill His plan of godliness if you are carnal, walking in the flesh and after the rudiments of this world.
As the husbandman of your family-fold, it is important for you to know that you can be born again and still manifest the works of the flesh. It is the workings of the Spirit of God in your life that empowers you to bear godly fruits of love, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness and humility. According to Scripture, if you want to produce the fruits of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, you must be spiritual by sowing spiritual seeds in your life (Gen.8:22).
But what does it mean for me to bear righteous fruits as the husbandman? It means to walk in the Spirit by allowing the Word of God to take pre-eminence over every other person or thing. It also means that your decisions, actions and conduct are being influenced by the Word of God, notwithstanding the cost. In Gal.5:16, the Scripture says, walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
You are an ambassador of Christ in your family fold. Just the same way an ambassador represents his or her country in the country where he or she serves, so you are to represent the kingdom of God in your family. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman and the Person you represent is love. He gives peace and He is patient. He is gentle and faithful. He is meek and He is a servant. As He is, so are you. So, be the vine that nourishes the branches (your wife and your children) with the fruits of the Spirit because that is what makes you the good and godly husbandman.
Hallelujah!
