But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them. But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister (Mk.10:42-43)
Jesus, who is the perfect example of the good and godly husbandman, says that as a leader, you are called to minister, that is, to serve the people. Jesus says that, unlike the other leaders who lord it over others, the good and godly husbandman doesn’t lord it over but serves the people.
Your greatness at home and in the lives of your wife and your children begins with servanthood. Your wife and children are not your slaves, nor are they pieces of furniture. They are gifts from God that deserve good and godly ministry as God demands, because that is where your greatness lies.
As a minister, called by God through Jesus Christ, to minister to my wife and my children, what are the areas God wants me to minister to them?
You minister spiritual food to them by doing and teaching them the principles, instructions, and truth of the Word of God (Deut.6:6-9, Jos.24:15, Acts 1:1).
You minister physical support to them by helping them, especially at home (Acts 10:38). You are not less of a man if you help them do the things they should do at home, particularly when they are physically tired.
You minister emotional support to them. Jesus never abused His disciples nor talked down on them. He connected with their joys, struggles, pain, fears, and discomfort.
You minister financial provision to them by working to earn income to give to them. It doesn’t matter whether your wife earns more than you or doesn’t earn any income at all; you must work and provide for them. Jesus provided for His disciples what they ate, drank, and wore, when He said, “when I sent thee, lackest though anything”.
You are God’s minister at home and in the lives of your wife and your children. God wants you to minister to them. You are a blessing and not a burden, so be a faithful minister (Gen.12:2b).
Hallelujah!

GOOD REPORT FROM THE FIELD
- I really appreciate the day in day out devotional teaching. I have been on for roughly 4 weeks, and it has helped me calm down, hold myself accountable to my household and share Jesus Christ through my actions (James, W).
