Let me begin by acknowledging that all men and husbands, including me, are tempted. But not all husbands fall into temptation. Let me also submit that because I am a servant of God and have the mandate from God to raise godly husbands around the world, I am not constantly under attacks and temptations? I am. Yes, I am. But thank God for His grace which is sufficient for me to overcome temptation. Precisely in September 2016, the Lord spoke to me about the force of lusts. This was after He taught me from His word in Romans chapter 6 and verse 11-14, where the Scripture says, sin shall not have dominion over you. The Person of the Holy Spirit said, “until you deal RUTHLESSLY with sin, you cannot escape its power”. This encounter further strengthened me to fight for excellence in my walk with God.
As the husband and the head of your family, you must appreciate that you are the enemy’s number one target. Satan is envious of your position and would do anything and everything to take your place. In Gen.3:1-6, he dethroned the husband when he made him to disobey God and His commandments. You must not allow satan to execute his plan in your life because his ultimate reward is to steal, kill and destroy your family kingdom (Jn.10:10). As the spiritual leader and teacher over your wife and children, your life must please the Lord. Your conduct must reflect the light and salt of Jesus Christ (Matt.5:13-14). God sent you into the lives of your wife and children so that through your godly functions as the man, husband and father, they will come to the knowledge of the truth. God wants to see you perform the priestly function as commanded in Num.6:22-27. Hence, you must love righteousness and hate sin and its attraction. You must wage a ruthless war against the forces of sin. You must not condone sin.
So, how do I become ruthless with sin? The first step for you is to acknowledge that sin and unrighteousness are satanic pulls set up to make you fall out of favour with God and man. Until you accept that sin does not offer any good, you cannot escape its power. Secondly, you must wage spiritual warfare against sin on a consistent basis. The word of God commands us to resist the devil and he shall flee from us (Jas.4:7). My father in the faith Bishop David Oyedepo once said that what you don’t resist is permitted to remain. Thirdly, you must engage the blood of Jesus to destroy strongholds of immorality and lusts in your life (Rev.12:11). As the godly husbandman, you are made to be fit for the Jesus’s use. Let it count.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, by Your Spirit, reveal to me the power and depth and breadth of sin.
- Father, by the Finished work of Calvary, break the power of every stronghold of sin in my life.
- Father, by Your Spirit, fill my heart with a holy hatred for sin and its attractions.
FAITH CONFESSION
I refuse sin and its attractions by faith in the finished work of Calvary because I am born of God to live a life well pleasing to God, my wife and children as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
