Three Things Are Needful

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Tim.5:7-8

More Scriptures: Gen.1:3, Gen.12:2-3, 1Thess.2:12

The totality of the husbandman is summed in three words- YOUR WORK, YOUR WORD AND YOUR WORTH.  As the head of the family, your headship is defined by what you do, what you say and what you are leaving behind-your legacy. So, let us begin this soul search by asking these questions. What do you do for a living? What is the measure of your work? How much of the benefit of what you do goes to meet the educational, shelter, food and material needs of your wife and children? Remember what the Bible commands you and I to do in 1Tim.5:7-8 and Gen.2:5. He that does not provide for his family is worse than a sinner (1Tim.5:8). And Gen.2:5, says that it did not rain because there was no man to till the earth.

Your word! Are your words gracious? Do you speak words that encourage your flock and others rather than demean them? Do your words inspire hope or deflate confidence? How well have you spoken commanded respect and followership from your sheep and people around you? You must understand that as the shepherd over your sheep, God wants you to speak words of inspiration and assurances to your flock. God wants your words to reframe every chaotic situation of people around you starting with your flock. If you study the first chapter of Genesis, you would discover how powerful words could be. And God said, let there be light and there was light (Gen.1:3). The word of God also reaffirms that your words are forceful.  And do you know that your words convey your character. Your words tell people who you really are. So, reexamine your words and their contents.

Your worth!. This is what God wants for you and it is from Genesis 12:1-3. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you (Gen.12:2-3) NLT. Your worth is not in meat or drink or what you wear or where you live. The quality of your life is defined by the number of persons that are blessed through you. What legacies are you leaving behind? What will you be remembered for? What landmark would people refer to whenever your name is mentioned? If all you are living for is what you and your family will eat, drink, wear and acquire you are of all men miserable. You are not a blessing. Reappraise your work, word and worth and you will end up becoming an awesome shepherd.
