Live Ready, Live Prepared

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Lk.18:1-2

More Scriptures: Matt.26:41, Mk.13:33, 1Cor.16:13

As the head of the family, you must not be caught napping. As the watchman over your wife and children, it is very important for you to be alert and alive. The Scripture tells us that satan, our adversary, is going about looking for whom he may devour. In most instances, satan or the challenges of life do not give advance notices. More often than not they come at us suddenly and if we are not prepared, we are consumed by it. The consequence of this is loss of our marriages, health, peace, strength, joy and hope. This is why Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband commanded us to watch and pray. As the shepherd that God has positioned over your wife and children, you must be on your guard. You must not lead your sheep casually and irresponsibly. If you don’t watch and pray, you lose the inheritances of God in your possession.  The Scripture says of Christ in John chapter 10. It says, My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them to me is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand (Jn.10:27-29).

But how do you live ready and prepared as a good shepherd? The first step is for you to open your heart and receive Jesus Christ into your life. This means making Him your Lord and personal Saviour.  Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life. He sees and knows all things. So, a relationship with Him, gives you access to know and see things that are ahead. The second step is to be filled with the spirit of grace and supplication. That is living a lifestyle of prayer. You cannot do much as the head of your family without the power and influence of prayer. Prayer remains one of the vital platforms that help you build your spiritual capacity. It was after Jesus returned from the prayer altar that He became so empowered to overcome all the temptations of the devil (Matt.4:1-11). You are helpless without the prayers. The third step is to meditate on the word of God. Meditation is what triggers revelation. It makes you to see farther and deeper. It also connects your spirit man to the spirit behind the word of God. And according to word of God, it is the Spirit of God that teaches you all things and shows you things to come.

Therefore, do not think that you are helpless leading your flock. God, who made you the head, has provided for your victory.
