A Healthy Conscience

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Sam.24:10

More Scriptures: Job 24:6, Acts 24:16, 1Sam.24:5

But after he had taken the census, David’s conscience began to bother him. And he said to the LORD, “I have sinned greatly by taking this census. Please forgive my guilt, LORD, for doing this foolish thing. (2Sam.24:10) NLT

How healthy is your conscience as the head of your family and the shepherd over your wife and children? Is your conscience alive or dead? Do you sense guilt when you do what is wrong to your wife and children? These are some of the questions that you need to answer if you really want to make the most of your headship. You must understand that the healthier your conscience, the healthier your life and the healthier the quality of your relationship with your wife and children will be. With a healthy conscience, you will not rejoice when your sheep fails or falls. When you have a healthy conscience, you will not wish your wife evil or turn the other side when she is being troubled. With a healthy conscience, you will be uncomfortable committing adultery or stealing what does not belong to you. This is why the word of God admonishes us to have a healthy conscience.

So, what does a healthy conscience represent? It really means to have the fear of God and to know what is right and what is wrong. It also means to eschew evil and love righteousness. It also means to be very uncomfortable with and around sin. It means your ability to apologise to your wife and children when the “man” on your inside tells you that you are wrong and you admit. As the head of your family, you cannot make the most of your headship if you do not have a healthy conscience. Your wife and children may not have the courage to challenge you when you cross the line. But a healthy conscience inside of you would. Many husbands have lost their lives and heritage as the good and godly shepherd because they have subdued their inner man. God wants to guide and lead you. He wants to shine His light in your heart so that you can enjoy divine direction for your life and He does it through the “small still voice”. Your conscience is one of the ways God communicates to you. You must do everything to have a listening hear.

But you have the personal responsibility to feed, nurture, grow, develop and protect your conscience and you do all these by the word of God. This is what Job, a shepherd like you and I did. I will maintain my innocence without wavering. My conscience is clear for as long as I live. (Job.27:6).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to have a living conscience.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with supernatural grace to listen to Your small still voice.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, pour upon me the spirit of humility.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take responsibility to listen to the inner voice of God and do as He speaks because that is what makes me a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
