Humble penny! This phrase was being used by a television host on Cable News Network (CNN) programme, Quest Means Money. His name is Richard Quest. As soon as he walked into the hall, he met a lady who perhaps had dropped a penny because she felt it was not relevant. However, Richard Quest picked up the coin and said at the end of the conversation that it is not just a simple penny but what you do with it. So, in penny management, every penny counts. It was a captivating advert and I began to meditate on it. Then my Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit, began to connect it to the office of the husband. And that is what I want to share with you today.
Just like the penny, you may not look like someone of value to your wife and children. Perhaps, you have lost your job or business. May be you have failed several times in your endeavour and you are being despised by your sheep, friends and family members. The devil and your present unpleasant circumstances may indicate that you are worthless. Never mind! You are not. You count every step of the way the same way every penny counts to the business man. The word of God tells us that you have been made as a king and priest to reign on the earth (Rev.5:10-12). So, you are significant in the plan of God for your life as a man, husband and father. Your life counts greatly before God and He has ordained you to do great things in your sheepfold. Any wonder in Gen.12:2-3, the Scripture says that through you shall the families of the earth be blessed.
But to really count like the penny, you must fight the good fight of faith. You must fight against every force of hopelessness, self-defeat, fear and discouragement. You must have a-more-than-conqueror mentality. The second action plan for you is to fight against anything that may want to take away the knowledge of who you are in Christ. You must understand that what the devil takes from us is the knowledge of the truth. And he does this by keeping us away from studying the word of God, meditating on it and acting on it (Ps.1:1-2). You must therefore continue to give attention to the word of God and think on it daily (Pro.4:20, Jos.1:8). So, as you allow the word of God into your life, it empowers you to see your true value as the head of your family in your sheepfold. The Scripture has this to say about you. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. That is who you are and that is what you are worth. Take your rightful place and be the valued addition that your wife and children and the world long to have.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a worthwhile ambassador to my wife and children.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, build up my self confidence and let me live it out in my family fold.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, uphold me and make me a profitable seed to my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am that rejected stone that is now the cornerstone to my sheepfold because of the life and worth of Jesus Christ in me as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
