Take Captive Your Mind

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Rom.12:1-3

More Scriptures: 1Pet.5:8, Rom12:21, Eph.6:6

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good and perfect will of God (Rom.12:1-3)

The summary of Rom.12:1-2 is captured in the topic for today’s devotional. As the head of the family and the priest over the flock God has committed into your hands, you need to take captive your mind. This is because if you do not take your captive your mind, it would wander away from the path of godliness. Many times, it is not your desire to do what is wrong. A lot of the time, you cannot control what runs into your mind but you can bring the ungodly thought under control just the same way a kidnapper holds his captive by restricting their movement, communication and ability to express themselves.

You must understand that the first war you fight is the mind-war. That is your greatest battle in your quest to become a good and godly husband. If you can win the war in your mind, you have won the battle on the outside. Bitterness, unforgiveness, adultery, malice, hatred, weakness, laziness and much more are issues of the heart. Read what the word of God says about the power of the mind. Guard your heart with all diligence for out if are the issues of life.  As the spiritual authority in your family fold, it is important for you to know that the origin of that lack of compassion you have towards your sheep; the mistrust you have against your sheep; and other negative challenges you may be having with your flock, is the workings of your mind. If you accept in your heart that there is nothing ungodly cheating on your wife with another woman, you will commit adultery. So, also, if you accept in your heart that it is right to be bitter against your wife and children, you will be bitter against them. Don’t blame your wife or children for your wrong actions. You must blame yourself for not taking captive the ungodly thoughts in your heart. However, the word of God has provided you a way of escape. In 1Pet.5:8, the Scripture has this to say, be alert and sober in mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1Pet.5:8). As the watchman over the sheep of God in your custody, you must be spiritually alert and be watchful. And this you can do by making friends with the Bible-studying the Bible and meditating on the word. You also increase your level of alertness by praying in the Holy Ghost. There is war against your headship and satan is the aggressor. You must not give him a chance. You must guard your heart to guide your life.
