It’s Profitable To Live In Peace

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Heb.12:13-14

More Scriptures: Rom.12:21, 1Thess.5:13, Matt.5:9

Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Heb.12:13-14) NIV.

As a husband and the head of your family, have you considered the alternative to peace? Well, in case you don’t know, let me tell. The best alternative to peace is war. And war brings with it destruction, pain and losses. God doesn’t want you to be in warfare with your sheep but to live in peace. If you read the Scripture of our main text today, two very important foundations are laid. The first foundation is the foundation of peace and the second is the foundation of holiness. You need the two to make the most of your headship as a good and godly husband. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, lived a holy life and in peace with His disciples. Peace is a reflection of a holy life. So as a husband and the spiritual authority over your wife and children, you must continue to live in peace with your flock. Not because, you have no alternative, but because it is the will of God for you to live in peace.

But how does this peace come? It comes by deliberately taking practical steps to ensure that you resolve every issue between you and your sheep as quickly as possible. Not giving room for bitterness to build up in your heart. For example, if your wife or child offends you, it is natural for you to be angry. While the Spirit of God will tell you to forgive them, satan would want to give you every reason to be bitter towards them and harbour unforgiveness in your heart against them. However, as a good and godly husband, you can overcome those thoughts by the help of the Holy Spirit by initiating the peace process. This means you take the initiative prayerfully to engage your flock in a conversation.. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).

What are some of the benefits you enjoy when you ensure that peace reigns between you and your flock? The most important blessing is that you enjoy the peace of God that passes all understanding. You enjoy health and vitality inside your body and also outside. You also enjoy unfettered access to the throne of God as your prayers are answered speedily (1Pet.3:7). Another blessing you enjoy is clarity of conversation with the Person of the Holy Spirit. Because when the peace of God encompasses your heart, the Holy Spirit is able to communicate with you of His plans for your life as God’s representative in your family fold. Lack of peace blocks your access to hearing from God. Live in peace.
