Keep The Covenants

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Prov.4:3-4

More Scriptures: Jas.1:22, Is.1:19, Matt.7:21

I give you sound learning, so do no forsake my teaching. For I too was a son to my father; still tender and cherished by my mother. Then he taught me and said to me, take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live (Pro.4:2:4) NIV

I have come to realize that our relationship with our sheep is founded on covenants derived from the Word of God. And we will be blessed not because we are the head of the family but because we do what the Word of God commands us to do. Do you also know that as the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your wife and children, some of the instructions God would communicate to you in all probability will not make any reasonable sense?

That is the admonition for you and I from the Word of God in Pro.4:2-4. God wants you and I to be covenant keepers. God wants us to keep all His commandments that He has given concerning the office of the husbandman. There are laws and instructions designed to guide how you function as a husband. Whatever God tells you to do doesn’t make you less a man. It does not also take away the truth that you are the head of the family. God wants the best for you and your flock. God wants to replicate His kingdom in your family fold. But you will have to cooperate with Him and obey whatever He tells you to do.

However, for you to understand what God’s commandments are to you as a husband, you must give attention to the word of God. Everything that God wants to tell you and everything He will ever tell you is inside the Bible. The Scripture says that the word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Ps.109:105). His word shows you what to do. It shows how to go about your life as a husband. His word guides your decision and strengthens your inner man to act like He would to your wife and children. The Bible says that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. His word is not a way. It is THE WAY. Secondly, you must tarry in prayers to receive empowerment to obey His commandments. The Scripture says that it is not of him that willeth nor of him that runneth but of God that showeth mercy. Effective prayer life is your enabler. When you keep the commandments of God these blessing accrue to you. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble (Pro.4:12) NIV.
