Be Responsible And Be Responsive

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Kgs.4:14-27

More Scriptures: 1Tim.6:20, Lk.7:13, Lk.12:42

Let me begin by saying that many husbands are responsible. They work hard to provide for their household. They provide for the shelter and clothing needs of their sheep. They also provide for education as well as food for their flock. This is commendable. However, there is the second part of your calling as the head of your family. And that is you must be responsive to your flock. This was exactly what played out in 2Kgs.4:14-27. The husband was a worker. He was comfortable and he ensured that his family did not lack. He was responsible to his duties but he was not responsive to the cry of his son when the son fell ill. His son went with him to the farm and while at the farm, the son began to complain about his head. He was feeling discomfort in his head. The more he complained the more his father felt the son was a burden. So, rather than pay attention to the pain of his son and exercise his authority as the pastor over his son by commanding the headache to go, he took his son to his mother to do whatever she liked. Eventually the boy died. But thank God for Prophet Elisha who intervened and restored the boy back to life.

That is what has happened to many husbands. We have limited our whole duty to just providing what our sheep would eat, drink and wear. We have not demonstrated that singular act that ought to distinguish us as good and godly husbands. You and I are prophets over our sheep. God has given us the mandate to lay hands on our sick sheep and recover their health. God has empowered you and I to stop every fiery dart that the devil may be throwing at our sheep. You and I are agents of recovery, restoration and renewal. We have the power to redirect our wives from continuing in the wrong path. We have the power to rescue our children from destructive habits and patterns. You and I have the power to restore the peace of God in our family-fold. So, you are more than a shepherd, you are a prophet and a priest.

But for you to operate at the level where you can quench the arrows of the wicked against your wife and children, you need to have a quality relationship with Jesus Christ. All powers belong to Him. And He only gives the power to as many that have accepted Him as their Lord and Personal savior (Lk.10:19). You also have to walk in faith and be baptized with the Spirit of faith (Heb.11:2, Eph.6:16). And when you become responsive to your sheep by functioning as a pastor, a priest and a prophet to them, they will honour you. And you will become the first person they will always run to when they face challenges.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a responsible and a responsive husband.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit-man to be sensitive to the inward needs of my wife and children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of faith to win always in the battle of life.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am both responsible and responsive to the inward and outward needs of my wife and children because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
