Empowered For Righteousness

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.26:31-35

More Scriptures: Mk.14:38, Philp.4:8, 1Cor.13:4-8

Then saith Jesus unto them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, verily I say unto thee, that this night before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter said unto him, though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples (Matt.26:31-35)

The above Scriptures were the conversations Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband, had with His disciples shortly before He was crucified. Peter and the other disciples gave Jesus Christ the assurance that they were not going to deny Him no matter the offence. And the disciples were sincere about their commitment to be loyal and faithful to Jesus Christ. So, the question is this. Did Peter deny Jesus? Did other disciples abandon Jesus? Yes, they did. Peter denied Him, not just once but thrice. Other disciples abandoned the cause for which Jesus Christ called them disciples and friends. That is the experience of many husbandmen. Many husbands do want to love their sheep as Jesus Christ has loved the church. Many more shepherds do want to lay down their lives and be committed to the well-being of their sheep. But they are unable to perform their roles as the man, husband and father of their sheepfold as Christ would. Many husbands struggle with the flesh and feel so disappointed time and again because their spirit is willing to do what is right but their flesh is weak (Matt.26:41). The spirit indeed is willing but the flesh is weak (Matt.26:41b). As the head of your family, it is very important for you to know that the will of God for you is to do what is righteous to your wife and children (Philp.4:8). God wants you to grow up into maturity and live by His covenants to your wife and children.

So, for you to translate your sincere intentions to active participation, you have to do what the Bible says in Mk.14:37-38. And he cometh and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? Couldest not thou watch one hour? WATCH and PRAY, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit is truly ready but the flesh is weak. You must embrace prayer as a lifestyle because that is what empowers your spirit man to gain command of your flesh thereby making you to do the right things. Praying also in the Holy Ghost empowers you to gain mastery of temptations. In addition to praying, you must be careful of the places you go, the books you read, the relationships you keep and the words you listen to. That is the way to victory.
