Godly Husbands Are Life-long Learners

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1 Cor. 13:11-13

More Scriptures: Pro.4:18, Philp.3:10, 2 Cor.12:9

Woe to you who think you live on easy street of Zion, who think Mount Samaria is the good life. You assume you are at the top of the heap, voted the number one best place to live. Well, wake up and look around. Get off your pedestal (Amos 6:1-2) MSG

I have observed that the greatest deceit the godly husbandman must be very wary of is to think that he is above learning. This I-know-it-all attitude has been responsible for the high incidence of tension in the family-fold. The Bible describes this attitude as pride and God hates it. As the head of the family and spiritual leader in your sheepfold, it is very important for you to know that you do not know all about how to lead your wife and children. Thank God for what you know about how to relate with your sheep as Christ requires of you. But there is still much more that you need to learn because the Scripture tells us that the path of the just man is like a shining light that shines brighter and brighter unto a perfect day (Pro.4:18). There is a perfect day for you as the godly man, godly husband and godly father. Your ability to continue to seek to know is what guarantees you effective leadership over your sheep.

The word of God has this to say about the learning attitude. “That I may know Him and the power of His salvation” (Philp.3:10). This desperate cry was made by Apostle Paul, who wrote about two-third of the New Testament. He never relented in finding out ways on how to improve His walk with God. He kept searching. He kept learning. And he became the Apostle. You have to keep finding out ways you can be all that God has ordained you to become to your wife and children. Your sheep has different stages in their lives. And each of the stages require you to have a working knowledge of how to handle them at each stage otherwise, you may run into trouble with them. You also need to know the perfect will of God for the lives of your sheep so that you can bring heavenly forces to bear towards their fulfillment.

So, how do I become a life-long learner as the shepherd over my sheep? You must develop an attitude of tireless pursuit of the truth from the word of God. The Scripture has this to say. Forgetting that which is behind, I press towards the mark of the high calling…… (Philp.3:14). You must keep reading books written by Christians that have proofs. You must keep listening to messages that edify your spirit man. You must keep attending Christian programmes where the word of God is preached. And as you keep searching and keep practicing the word of God as it concerns your sheep, you will not be ashamed to be called a good and godly husbandman (2 Tim.2:15).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, break in me the power of pride and arrogance.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the spirit of laziness and spiritual complacency.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit of grace and supplication and humility.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am filled with the spirit of humility to continue to learn at the feet of Jesus Christ and to do all that He commands me to do because that is my pathway to becoming a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
