Apprenticeship

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.15:1-3

More Scriptures: 1 Pet.5:6, Jn.14:26, Jas.4:10

A few weeks ago, the Person of the Holy Spirit began to teach me on the perspective of apprenticeship. And in my quest to know more about who an apprentice is, I decided to check up the word in the dictionary. This is what I found out. An apprentice is a young person who works for an employer for a fixed period of time in order to learn the particular skills needed in their job. This definition exposes three vital characters of an apprentice. First is that an apprentice is young. Secondly, an apprentice learns a skill. And thirdly, an apprentice is a worker. The ultimate purpose of an apprentice is to learn from the master, skills and knowledge and thereafter put what has been learnt and acquired to work.

That is who you are as the good and godly shepherd. As a shepherd, you are the apprentice and Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband, is the Master. Every skill, knowledge, information and examples you will require to excel as the head of your family and as a godly man, husband and father is in Him. So, if you want your sheep and the people around you to notice the life of Jesus through you and bring glory to His name, you must deliberately sign up for apprenticeship with Jesus Christ. You must remember that you are made in the image and likeness of God; hence you are like Jesus Christ to your wife and children (Gen.1:26-28).

But why must I sign up to Him to become an apprentice? Firstly, you are made in His image and likeness and you sit with Him in heavenly places. What this means is that you cannot be far from Him and expect to function like a godly man, husband and father to your sheep. You must be in Him and He in you. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…. (2Cor.5:17). Secondly, He has all the keys that will make you win every challenge you may have with your sheep. The word of God tells us this much. For I am the way, the truth and the life (Jn.14:6). Jesus Christ, the perfect example of how a good and godly husband behaves, has the answers to those challenging issues you are having with your wife and children. He can teach the wisdom you need to handle your disobedient, disrespectful, disloyal and rebellious sheep. The more you know Him and His ways, the more empowered you become to lead and head of your family.

You must remember that Jesus Christ is ever prepared and ready to accept and teach you as His apprentice. He said so in Jn.14:26. I will send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. He will teach you all things…. (Jn.14:26). So, as you seek to learn from Him, you become like Him to your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, pour upon me the spirit of humility and obedience.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me a teachable spirit and help me to learn Your ways.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to trust You and Your instructions and help me to act them in my sheepfold.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give myself to learn at the feet of Jesus Christ because that is what empowers me for a victorious life as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
