Give God Your Heart

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Pro.23:26

More Scriptures: Matt.15:18-20, Mk.7:6, Heb.10:22

My son, give me thine heart and let thine eyes observe my ways (Pr.23:26)

As the head of your family and the spiritual leader in your home and the shepherd that God has ordained to lead your sheep, God is as interested in your heart as He is in your finances, character, charisma, conduct and reputation. He wants you to give Him your heart. This is because the quality of your heart influences the quality of your conversation and relationship with your wife and children. So that if your heart is right, your head will also be right. As the shepherd of your sheep, you must realize that many of the challenges and struggles that you are having with your sheep starts with the information your heart has received and accepted. For instance, you just don’t wake up to be bitter against your flock; you don’t become adulterous suddenly or become an irresponsible shepherd. The totality of your actions, whether good or bad towards your sheep, is as a result of the state of your heart. Read what Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, said. But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things that defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man (Matt.15:18-20).

God wants your heart so that He can feed it with graceful seeds that will mould you to have self control over your emotions. God wants your heart so that He can whisper to you His wisdom on how to respond to your wife and children without cracking the wall of the sheepfold. God wants your heart so that He can clean you up from every form of filthiness because you have His mind. However, for you to give your heart to God, you must accept that your heart needs help. You must recognize that God will not force Himself on you. When Jesus met with the man who needed healing, He asked Him, do you believe that I can heal you? And the man agreed with Him that He can heal him so he responded, “yes Lord”. The second step is for you give Him your heart with expectation that it would be thoroughly cleaned. This will help you to acknowledge those areas where you desperately need help and expect to see changes.

You cannot be better than the quality of what is in your heart. So, as you give God your heart, He will help you to reorder your thoughts, words, actions and conduct to make them fit for use for the good of your wife and children thereby making you a godly husband.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, awaken my consciousness to recognize my need for the cleansing of my heart.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of pride in my life.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be a godly example to my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I give my heart to Jesus so that He can make it clean because that is what helps me to function as a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
