BUILDING ON THE MOMENTUM (3)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ps.48:1-2

More Scriptures: Is.8:18, Ps.139:14, Ps.112:2

Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised. In the city of our God and in the mountain of His holiness, beautiful for situations and the joy of thy whole world. It is mount Zion side of the Northern city of the great king (Ps.48:1-2)

I would like to begin today’s teaching by trying to differentiate between thanksgiving and praise as we consider the third commitment you must make and live by as the husbandman. When you thank someone, it is because of what the person may have done for you. So, when someone gives you money, a lift, a smile, a gift or pays you a visit, you are most likely to appreciate him or her and express your thankfulness. However, when you praise someone, it is principally for who they are. The Scripture above explains to you and I that praise to God is not because of what He has done for us but for who He is. We praise Him for His person.

Now that is the attitude you must commit to this year. You must praise your wife and children for who they are and not for what they have or have not done. Your wife may be short and fat. She may be uneducated and dark. Her weaknesses are not your focus but the truth that she is a gift from God and that she is fearfully and wonderfully made by God Ps.139:14). And for this reason, praise her truthfully and sincerely. When you tell her you love her, let it be the truth and let it come from your heart. Praise her for who she is. Your child or children may be disrespectful, disobedient, and rebellious to you. Don’t condemn them. Don’t allow their weaknesses to blind you from the truth of what God says about them. God said the children He has given to me, they are for signs and wonders (Is.8:18). God also said that the seed (children) of the righteous shall be mighty on the earth (Ps.112:2). God also concluded that your children shall stand at the gates of thy enemies. All of these are the personalities of your children. Praise God for who He says they are. So, you must have a praiseful attitude toward your sheep.

But for you to develop a praiseful attitude towards your sheep, you must focus on what God says about them. The Bible says this. The light of the body is the eye. If therefore thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light (Matt.6:22). You must intentionally and joyfully see your wife and children through the eyes of faith in Christ Jesus. That is when you will enjoy their company, friendship and fellowship. And that is when you become useful to them and they appreciate your presence in their lives as the good and godly husband. As the head of your family, you have the greatest privilege to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to your wife and children and the world. Make it count positively in their lives.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with the attitude of praisefulness so that I will appreciate my sheep for who they are.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the deceitfulness of comparison.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me reasons from Your word why I must praise my wife and children.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am committed to cultivate and live by the attitude of a praiseful heart towards my wife and children because that is what defines my glory as the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
