THE LONG RUN

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Eph.5:25-26

More Scriptures: Hab.3:17-18, Gal.4:19, Ps.40:1

I want to first acknowledge my indebtedness to my Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit. He has continued to teach me and has not failed to inspire and direct me in the assignment to raise GODLY HUSBANDS around the world which God has committed into my hands.

In investment, some investment decisions are made either for the short run or the long run. It depends on the objectives of the fund owners and the risks associated with the investment. However, as the shepherd over your sheep, you must understand that the reason why God has given you wife and children is for the long run and not the short. God wants you to consider your leadership role over your wife and children as long-term investments. If you read Eph.5:25-26, the Bible establishes why you must love your Christ as Christ has loved His bride. Husbands love thy wife as Christ has loved the church……. that you might present her as a glorious church……. Eph.5:25,27. So, also in Eph.6:4, the Scripture commands you to bring up your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). To love your wife is not a sprint. To train your children also is not a sprint. Both investments are marathon in nature. When you understand this truth, it will help you to demonstrate the virtue of compassion, mercy, patience and support to your sheep at all times, especially when they fail. Sometimes, it would appear as though you have wasted your time helping your wife. Other times, it would look as if they are not responding to your instructions and corrections. You must not give up on them. You must not condemn them. What God wants you to do in your ordained capacity as a pastor, prophet and priest, is to act the same way Jesus Christ has acted to His bride. While the bride was yet in sin, He died for her. He has continued to intercede for her until Christ is formed in her (Gal.4:19). God wants you to love your sheep.

However, you will need to commit your life to two major spiritual demands if you want to make your long-term investment profitable in the lives of your sheep and not make your sheepfold another statistics of a failed family. The first is that you must have the bigger picture in view and stay focused on your sheep and sheepfold. This means that you must consistently fight distractions that may want to stop you from reaping the blessings of God for your family. If your eyes are single, your whole body will be full light (Matt.6:22). The second demand is for you to be hopeful. Without hope, you cannot lead your wife and children for the long run. Your sheep will make mistakes. They will disappoint you. They may even betray you. Sometimes, it may look as if they are not correctable. What you need to do is look beyond their present weakness and focus on their glorious destinies.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to be patient and kind to my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of mercy and compassion toward my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to remain steadfast in leading my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am in the long run in leading my wife and children until Christ is formed in them because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
