KEEP YOUR LIGHTS BURNING

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Lk.12:35-37

More Scriptures: Jn.8:32, 2Tim.2:15, Ps.119:105

Let your loins be girded about and your lights burning. And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding, that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately. Blessed are those servants whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching, verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to meat and will come forth and serve them. (Lk.12:35-37).

The opening statement from the above Scripture is very important to every husband who wants to secure his position as the head of the family. It says, “keep your lights burning”. As the head of the family and the leader in your sheepfold, you cannot afford to be careless with your life, your relationships, your finances, your health, and most importantly your salvation. A lot of the time, husbands are carried away with so much work and activity that they begin to lose the need to be watchful. So, after sometime, the husbands cannot explain why their sheep have suddenly gone off track-loving the world and the things of the world more than they love God, children becoming rebellious and wives becoming disobedient. Consequently, the husband loses his peace, gets involved in drugs and sexual immorality. This is why you need to keep your lights burning.

But what is the light and how do you keep it aglow? The light is knowledge. God wants you to know more about Him, your wife and children. God wants you to know His perfect plans for your wife and children. God wants you to know how to handle every challenge that will come between you and your sheep. So that when you know who you are and what God has created your wife and children to be, you will not accept less for them. The Bible has this to say. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free (Jn.8:32). Your freedom from unforgiveness against your sheep, abuse and maltreatment of your sheep begins with the truth. For example, if you know that God put you in charge of your sheepfold to serve your sheep, you will not be tired of giving your best to your wife and children. If you know that as the head of your family, God has ordained you a pastor, prophet and priest over your wife and children, you will resist and fight anything that wants to take them away from you. Study to show yourself approved…. (2Tim.2:15). That is what knowledge does for you.

In order to keep what you know alive and make it relevant to you and your sheep, you must be a life long learner. You must keep reading and keep studying. You must keep researching who you are as the head of your family from God’s word and what He has made your wife and children to be for your good. That is your call. It is a tall one.
