As the head of your family, your desire for respect and honour from your sheep is in order. What is wrong and disorderly is for you think that respect is your greatest need. No! Your greatest need is the presence and nature of God in your life. Many husbands assume and claim that they are not getting the needed respect from their sheep. Unfortunately, they forget that respect that they look for from their sheep is not conferred but earned. This is so very important because many husbands have continued to harp on their sheep to respect them even when they (husbands) have not demonstrated the character and appropriate responses that would inspire their sheep to respect and honour them. This is the challenge that you and I as heads of our families must take upon ourselves. You must rise above the mentality that your wife must respect you without first sowing the seed of respect into her life by the way you conduct your words, thoughts and responses.
So, what do you need most? You need to have the presence of God in and around you because that is what imparts His nature and character in your life. And His life is what empowers you to treat your wife and children as Christ would. And when you become like Christ to them, you earn their respect. You must understand that the success of your family life and the capacity for you to manifest the power and glory of God in your sheepfold depends on how much of the God kind of life you have working in you. You need Jesus Christ to transform the way you think, the way you talk and the way you respond to your sheep. This is what the Bible says about the importance of the presence of God in your life. Let this mind be, even the mind of Christ (Php.2:5). As you long for God’s presence, you are changed unto His image from glory to glory (2Cor.3:8).
But how do I attract and maintain the presence of God as the head of my family? The first step is to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. You must be born again. This means that you make Him the owner of your life and all that you have (Acts 10:35-36). The second step is for you to work out your salvation by walking in the fear of the Lord. The Scripture tells us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Pro.1:7). The fear of God is having reverence and respect for God. So, when you respect God and want to do those things that please Him, it will not be difficult for you to extend respect and honour to your sheep. And this is what triggers a respectful response from your sheep (Ps.24:2-3, Ps.112:1-4). You must understand that the more of Christ you have working in you, the greater the positive influence you exert over your sheep. That is your greatest need.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit of love, to love You passionately.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to maintain my fellowship with You.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, break the power of sin and sinful of bondages in my life and let my life please You.
I desire and maintain my fellowship with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit because that is what I need to function mightily as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen
