YOUR ARE THE SPICE FOR THE MEAL

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.5:12-16

More Scriptures: Gen.18:19, Matt.5:16, Mk.9:50

Some years ago, at home, my wife cooked dinner for the family. Unfortunately, she cooked and forgot to add salt to the meal. Of course, when we ate the food, it was tasteless, notwithstanding all other ingredients that were included in the meal. As little as salt was, it played a very important role in giving the meal a taste. This reminds you that as the head of the family, you are the salt of the world and your life must give taste first to your family. As the head of the family, you are expected to give meaning to your wife and children. Your family is supposed to savour your life as a living example. Your life must make a meaning for good and for God.

Bu how do you become the salt and light of your family? First, you must be a husband of good character. Don’t forget it is your character that sums up your person. Let your life speaks much more. Be a husband of honesty and integrity. Let your yes be yes and your no be no. you must be a husband whose life can be copied or emulated. For instance, the husband of Sarah, was a light to his family and by extension his community. He was a faithful man who can be trusted and reliable. He was not a husband who double speaks or lives a double life. Before the King of Sodom, he was a salt. Before his children, he was a salt. No wonder God even testified of him when He said I know Abraham, that he will guide his family in the way of the Lord (Gen.18:19). To be a salt, you must be a husband that is good and godly in words, deeds and the thoughts of your hearts.

The question now is, how are you living your life before God, your wife, your children and your community? Are you adding good and godly flavor to their lives or contributing to the sins and immorality of the world? Are you influencing your wife, children and community for good and God? Are you an agent of preservation or destruction? These questions are very important for every husband because as the head of your family, you are created and made a husband to influence your family for God. Infact in Genesis chapter 2 verses 15, God gave us the summary of our reason for being a husband when He said, dress and keep (Gen.2:14).  To dress and keep means that you are to, by your attitude, influence people around you for God. Just imagine how a pinch of salt can change the taste a food. So, whether you are a young husband or an older husband, the fact that you are the head of the family presents to you a greater opportunity to influence your family for God and add flavor to their lives. It also provides you the power to protect and preserve the good of your family from the corruption of this world, sin and the devil.
