WHAT WOULD JESUS DO?

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Philp.2:3-5

More Scriptures: Rom.12:21, Rom.12:2, 1Tim.1:15

Imagine for a moment this picture. Jesus Christ takes your place. He is married to your wife and children. As the marriage year progresses, His wife and children begin to manifest negative attitudes. They become rude to Him, disobey His instructions and dishonor Him. Most times His wife and children become disloyal and unashamedly display this ungodly attitude for people to see. Now, what do you think Jesus would do? How do you think Jesus would respond to these unpleasant attitudes? Do you think that He would respond to His wife and children in the same measure of the disgusting character of His flock? Do you think that He would stop providing the resources required to feed and clothe His wife and children? Do you think He would stop being kind and compassionate to them? Do you think, Jesus would stop being the true example of the good and godly husband?

Let us consider who Jesus Christ is and how He related with His sheep. The Bible describes Him as the Groom. So, He had a bride, that is the church. And the church embodies the bride captured in the twelve disciples. If you look at the bride, you discover that she manifested different attitude. Jesus had to square up with it. In all of this, He did not sin. He did not deny them the benefits of godly leadership. He continued to feed, guide and protect them. He always had their back covered. He prayed for them and gave up His convenience for their good. He took ownership of His sheep. That is who you are and that is the life God wants you to live.

The Scripture has this to say. Let this mind be in you, even the mind of Christ (Philp.2:5). What this means is that because you have been commanded to love your wife and children as Christ had loved the church, then it becomes urgent for you to act like He would to your wife and children. You are made in His image and you are also to act like Him.

It is true that your wife and children are not living up to expectation. It is obvious to all that your sheep have not behaved properly. Infact, they have many weaknesses. But what makes you the godly husband is that inspite of all of their failures, you still love them as Christ would. You pray for them, care for them, protect them, guide them and inspire them. And this journey begins with you putting yourself in the shoes of Jesus Christ and be determined to act like He would. Secondly, you fill your heart with the good sides of your sheep rather that the bad sides. You must see them as gifts from God and treasure every moment of their lives with you. As the good shepherd, you have the power to be like Jesus Christ to your sheep. You have to make the choice to be like Him.

This really spoke to me this morning. I struggle with bitterness and forgiveness frequently. I need to show more love and compassion to my wife and son even when they are being ungodly because that is my duty to protect, love, and serve them.
