COMPLAINTS OR COMPLIMENTS?

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Romans 16:1-4

More Scriptures: 2Cor.3:1, 1Cor.10:10, Jas.3:2

I commend unto you Phoebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Censhrea, that ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you, for she hath been a succorer of many and myself also. Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my helpers in Christ Jesus. Who have for my life laid down their own necks, unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles (Romans 16:1-4)

If you study the epistle of Paul, you would observe that he was always in the habit of commending people or greeting people, irrespective of their weaknesses and failures. So, in his message to the people, you hear him say things, I greet you…… I commend you…… He had a positive outlook towards his followers. He knew that they had shortcomings, but he did not dwell on that. Rather, he motivated them to grow to becoming all that God has ordained for them. That is the attitude that God wants you to have toward your wife and children. It is the attitude of the godly husbandman. A lot of the times as the head of the family, you are faced with challenges especially from your sheep. This weakness may likely manifest in their spiritual, emotional, academical and mental life. Sometimes, their attitudes irritate you and the natural response will be for you to abuse them, ignore, or even criticize them. But the Bible has given you a superior option to treating the weaknesses of your sheep. And that is that instead of complaining about everything your wife and children do, you should commend them for those insignificant achievements that they have achieved. It is the only way you can earn their trust and encourage them to become good and godly sheep.

But for you to see beauty in the ashes of your sheep, you must do these three important things. The first is that you must ask the Lord to forgive you for being a murmurer and a complainer. God doesn’t like those who murmur and complain (Numbers 11:1). He likes and enjoys the company of a grateful person. Secondly, you must ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes of understanding that you may see the good in your sheep (Eph.1:18). A lot of the times, satan blinds you from seeing the efforts of your sheep. He sometimes makes you to consider the success of your sheep as insignificant. Don’t allow this lie. Thirdly, you must openly commend your sheep. If your wife cooks and the food is not as tasty as you had expected, openly appreciate her effort and encourage her to improve. If your child returns home with not too impressive result from school, congratulate him or her and encourage him or her to work harder next time. As the head of your family, you must continue to provide purposeful leadership to your wife and children because everything rises and falls on you.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, forgive me for being unthankful for the little efforts of my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, open my eyes to see the little success of my sheep.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to celebrate my wife and children publicly and unashamedly.

FAITH CONFESSION

My eyes are opened to see the positive efforts of my wife and children and the Holy Ghost has empowered me to commend them rather than condemn them because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
