WONDERS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD (3)

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Jn.10:29-30

More Scriptures; Lk.10:19, 1Sam.1:8, Heb.11:6

My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me (Jn.10:27)

Let me begin by saying that being the godly shepherd is the greatest platform that God has given to you to exercise your authority and influence over your sheep. And if you can walk in the light of Scriptures as the godly man, husband and father, you will be an asset to your wife and children and a blessing to humanity. And above all, God will bless you and you will dine with Him in heaven.

The other wonder you enjoy when you exercise yourself as the good and godly husband is the power to lead your wife and children. But in what areas are you ordained to lead your sheep? The first is for you to lead them in the things of God. And that includes leading them to the house of God, reading and sharing insights from the word of God, praying for and with them and helping them to know God and His desires. So, the question you must ask yourself now is this. Who is leading in spiritual matters in your sheepfold? You or your wife? You must understand that anyone who gains spiritual control of any matter will command physical power over it. If you want to be in charge of the affairs of your sheep and sheepfold, you must give yourself to spiritual disciplines.

The second area that God wants you to lead your sheep is in physical provisions and this means taking responsibility to provide for the needs of your wife and children-shelter, food, clothing, education, good healthcare and physical materials. A man that cannot provide for his household is worse than an infidel (1Tim.5:8). It is not in the character of the good and godly shepherd to be dependent on either his wife or family members to fulfill his responsibility as the principal provider. You lose your self-respect and self-worth. Infact, you lose your voice in your family and in the circle of responsible men, husbands and fathers. God doesn’t want that for you. The Bible describes Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband, as the Great provider. The Lord is my Shepherd……….(Ps.23:1). And the Lord shall supply all my needs……(Philp.4:19.) So, the question you must answer is this. Are you dependent on your wife, parents or relations or even friends for materials and finance required to provide for your sheep? If you are dependent, you are not fit to be called the good shepherd and you disqualify yourself from the blessings and rewards from the Lord for good stewardship.

The third is for you to protect your sheep from molestation either from your family members or outsiders. This is a sign of honouring your sheep. Husbands deal with thy wife according to knowledge so that your prayers may not be hindered (1Pet.3:7). You must cherish your shepherd anointing and exercise yourself wholly to the demands. You will be the greatest beneficiary for doing the will of God for your wife and children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to lead my wife and children faithfully.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to protect my wife and children.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, make the godly man, husband and father to my sheep

FAITH CONFESSION

I am the good shepherd and I lead my sheep in the fullness of God’s expectations of my office as the husbandman because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
