What is unique about today’s teaching? How would that impact your life as the godly man, husband and father? One of the blessings you will enjoy from reading today’s devotional is that you will understand that you have absolute power to influence your wife and children to serve Jesus and His kingdom on the earth. So, if your sheep are not towing the line of godliness, despite all your efforts, you must not give up on the assignment. You must keep pressing on until you make your wife and children to walk in the light of the truth of the word of God. And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man’s house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house, and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized. (Acts 18:7-8).
This husband made all the difference in the lives of his family. He and his household believed on the Lord. The most important thing to note here is that they believed in the Lord. They did not believe in man’s principles or doctrines, which are not as enduring as the word of God. This explains why the Scriptures say that there is no other foundation other than the foundation laid by Jesus Christ….(1Cor.3:11). As a minister of the gospel and head of the family, you must continue to teach your children the knowledge of Jesus Christ because its forms the foundation of their salvation. As the spiritual leader of your fold, you must invest God’s word into your wife and children as much as you invest your time in your assignment in church. Don’t just assume that your sheep will turn out well because you are a pastor or deacon or deaconess. You must make deliberate plans and devise godly strategies to ensure that your wife and children believe the same Jesus Christ that you believe and much more importantly, that they walk in His ways.
Crispus, the chief ruler not only believed on the Lord, his household also believed in Him. And this joy of salvation was evident for all the people. So, what are the ways you can make your sheep to believe in Jesus? The first is for you to walk in His ways. And this requires that you think, talk and act like Him to your sheep. That is let your light so shine before them (Matt.5:16). The second is for you to ask the Lord to give you wisdom on how well to win your sheep over to Christ. The Scripture says that God will give you a mouth and a wisdom that your enemies shall not be able to resist and gain say (Lk.21:15). And thirdly, you must maintain an attitude of gratitude at all times. When your sheep fail, thank God that they will be restored. Also, thank God in advance for the salvation of their souls.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be a good and godly influence on my wife and children.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not to give up on my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me wisdom to lead my wife and children.
I am a vessel through which my wife and children will believe Jesus and His word because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
