HIRELING OR SHEPHERD?

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Hebrews 11:32-33

More Scriptures: Ps.82:6, Heb.11:33, 2Sam.7:11

As the shepherd of the sheepfold, you and I are daily faced with challenges of life. So, we have a decision to make. We either fight or flee. We are either the good shepherd or a hireling. Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of the good and godly shepherd says that the good shepherd sees the wolf coming to attack the sheep and he contends with the wolf and secures his sheep and sheepfold. But a hireling sees a wolf coming, he abandons his sheep and runs away (Jn.10:10-11). It is very instructive to know that as the shepherd over your sheep, satan, sin and the world would attempt to attack you and your sheepfold. Satan and his agents will attempt to cause confusion and tension in your sheepfold. That is satan’s nature- attacking the shepherd’s sheepfold. He attempted the first sheepfold in Genesis chapter three (3), and the shepherd, Adam, watched rather than fight and he lost out. God’s word describes satan this way. Satan goes about looking for whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8).

So, it is not strange that you are facing challenges with your wife and children. The Bible tells us that those challenges are common to man (1Cor.10:13). What is important for you as the good shepherd is whether you want to fight or run away. If you fight, you win. If you flee, you lose. You must understand that your headship confers on you authority and power not just to fight but to always win. And God said let us make man in our own image and likeness and let him have dominion over all…(Gen.1:26-28). And as a result, Jesus Christ always causeth us to triumph (2Cor.2:14).  Have the doctors diagnosed that your wife cannot be pregnant or she is afflicted by a strange illness? Have you just received a poor academic report about your child or he or she has become wayward? Are you experiencing very tough times that is threatening your position as the husband and by extension your marriage? God is saying to you, do not take a flight or run away or abandon your sheep and sheepfold.  Fight back. Fight back to recover and to restore. That is your winning power because you are a god. (Ps.82:6)

When satan asked Jesus Christ to bow before him and he was going to give him all the allure of the kingdom of the earth, Jesus did not flee. Jesus promptly fought back and commanded him to get lost. So, if Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband fought satan and won, you can also fight and win. You can fight to recover your wife’s health. You can fight back to win the love of your wife and children. You can fight back to restore the dignity of your child’s spiritual and academic destiny. You can fight to make your wife pregnant again and stop the tension in your sheepfold. Who through FAITH subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions (Heb.11:33).
