THE MINISTRY OF HUSBANDS (3)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Chronicles 4:39-41

More Scriptures: Ps.23:2, Jer.33:12, Rom.12:21

Yesterday, we understood the place of shielding our sheep from the influences of satan, sin and the world. The Holy Spirit opened our eyes to see that if we don’t fill the hearts of our sheep with good and godly values, satan will. This is because life abhors a vacuum. So, you have a responsibility to protect your sheep from ungodly influences. Another ministry that you have as the good and godly shepherd is to seek the good of your sheep. The word of God commands you to have goodwill towards your sheep. It is the virtue of the godly husbandman.  It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. Love bears all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening] 1Cor.13:6-7 AMP. Reading from Scripture, you will appreciate that when you have goodwill towards your sheep it is to seek out the good of your sheep. It is wickedness to think evil of your sheep. It is even more wicked to do wickedly to your sheep. Being wicked to your wife and children does not represent your true identity as the godly man, husband and father.

Let me mention some of the ways you have been very wicked to your sheep. It is wickedness for you to imagine the death of your wife so that you can have free access to your mistress. When you steal from your wife her peace, hope and strength by abusing her emotionally and physically, you are wicked. When you have extra-marital affairs, it is wickedness. When you leave your wife to herself and she is abused and threatened by your family members and relations, you are wicked. When you molest your children and take advantage of their innocence, you are wicked. When you conspire with your friends to embarrass your sheep, you are wicked. When you partner with your mistress to drive your wife away from your sheepfold, you are wicked. I read of a true-life story of a husband who because he wanted to elope with another woman to the United States of America, swore to an affidavit that his wife was dead. The wife was not dead neither were they divorced. The wicked man was exposed when he forgot the travel documents and his wife found them. Need I say more? Whatever you do to your sheep that is contrary to the will and plan of God for their lives is sin and it is wicked.

So, how do you seek the good of your sheep? By thinking good of them and not evil. Be not overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:21). As the godly husbandman, you must not allow the mistakes of your sheep to overshadow their good sides. And don’t claim that they are not good. It is worth your life seeking the good of your sheep.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, save me from evil thoughts and fill my heart with good thoughts.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me power to overcome evil with good.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to have a positive outlook for my sheep in every situation.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take charge of my spirit man and subject it to the power in the Word of God to think and seek the good of my wife and children, because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
